"Teams have not only called the Montreal Canadiens about rugged defenceman Arber Xhekaj, but some have also pitched offers. In fact, word is the Habs received an offer for a young NHL forward, a former first-round pick, with second-line potential. Montreal declined." Source: www.thefourthperiod.com/pagnotta/kings-reaching-breaking-pointI get Xhekaj is a fan favorite, and still has some potential, but turning down a young forward with top 6 potential...? Idk that seems like a poor move. Maybe I'm undervaluing Xhekaj's overall potential. I personally see him as a #4 guy at most if he hits his ceiling? 25 point type guy. I can’t help but think that in 2-3 years we’ll be looking back and think remember when one D was a top, can’t miss prospect , another young D was a future top pair guy and another was a perfect depth guy and leader… but instead of all that potential they’ll be seen more in the category of reclamation projects. Now because this happens, because not everyone works out you want depth in your youth. But too much of this and guys get stalled, held back, discouraged… too many bodies can be part of the reason guys don’t work out. Some of that happening seems like a guarantee at this point. Montreal and Hughes would be well served not to fall in love with every prospect and young D.

Waiting sometimes can also decrease value. There's always going to be risk involved but if you have a sure fire top tier offer and you're rejecting it...idk could be tough.

I mean the rumour really tells us nothing
how long ago was he a first round pick
who believes he is still a top 6 potential forward?
just plucking names out of the air.. what if it was the Kings calling and offering Turcotte? I'd turn that down too

When you want to be a team that goes far at playoff time, a guy like Xhekaj is a guy worth his weight in gold. Size, skil, mobililty and nasty. Guys like that are harder to find than a Harris or Barron

I imagine he’d be interested in a more consistent role going forward, especially hearing there’s interest from other teams. Wonder what Montreal is willing to pay. Barron’s contract I think is up as well. The issue of too many young D trying to establish themselves in the NHL with Montreal might start becoming an issue sooner rather than later.

A good issue to have. Their D prospect pool is deep.....and they can trade a couple of their young D to add to their FW group

okay so assuming that happens
since you guys think the Habs can and/or will get the equivalent or better than Calgary got for lindholm
you would say the deal would be what?
my guess if it's true
Lambert and the 24 first
Winnipeg has no NHL proven asset like Vancouver did in Kuzmenko
toss one more name out there..... Morgan Barron to play with his brother
