Today's lineup for the NYE Game Squires - Burbidge - Patterson Houde - MacDonald - Lavallée Ricard - Roy - Fullerton Newcombe - McPhee - Aucoin Biggar - Schmitt Daigle - Lavoie Desjardins - Shortall Waugh Ruccia - Starts Milota Scratches: Will Shields - Injured/Sick Noah Larochelle - Healthy Scratch Jude Campbell - Injured/Sick Probably going 11 and 7 today imo. who’s the odd man out, McPhee? Only has played like 1 game in the past month. Interesting to still see lavallee in after not being on the roster anymore on the q site.

I'm assuming Newcombe as I feel the Eagles would be making a bigger deal of him playing if it was indeed his first game back.

Nice Way to close out 2023 . Ruccia made some very nice saves . Now lets see what the GM does as the Trade Window opens again on Tuesday .

Just simply based on the past 3 games coming into 2024, we've seen alot of positives lately.
Hopefully coaching staff has sat down with players and the team as a whole and really stressed the point of its time to buckle down and get serious here, the second half of this season is going to be more important than ever for trying to secure home ice in the playoffs and getting out of the first round.
With a mostly returning core next season these guys need to get a taste of playoff success in their mouths if they want to make a serious push next year and potentially the year after.

Agree with you here. We can continue to spend our time on here complaining about ownerships timeline for contending or we can look for positives. If you choose to ignore the disaster that was opening weekend when the Eagles allowed 13 goals in 2 games, they are one of the stingiest defensive teams in the league. Offense is obviously a problem but if they land Cibulka and Newcombe is back soon that will help. Instead of focusing on whether they gave up too much for Schmitt a year ago or if they should have kept Desrussieuax, I will just hope this version of the team continues to improve as the season goes along and has home ice in the opening round and wins. Then, they are likely to be an underdog as early as round two but underdog teams that take down favorites are often built around great goaltending and a strong defensive game. That's exactly what we have seen from the Eagles so far. I am not predicting a league championship this year or anything like that, but this could be a pretty fun ride for the next year and a half if we stop worrying about how it could all go wrong. Newcombe coming back after defeating cancer and helping the team go on a run would be one of the best storylines this team has ever written. Who knows if it will all result in a Memorial Cup appearance in 2025 but I just don't want to lament what could have been before we see what actually happens.

Who knows if it will all result in a Memorial Cup appearance in 2025 but I just don't want to lament what could have been before we see what actually happens. People have responded to the teams inconsistent messaging (owner and GM might be on the same page but they're saying different things) and the teams inconsistent play (.500 team after half the schedule) The fact the team finally starts stringing consistent efforts together....that Halifax low scoring home game felt different than some of those earlier season games...as the GM basically says we can afford to have some patience and not move our top young asset....cant really be ignored. And that all it takes is a short term consistent feel of effort and direction for the fans to start jumping on board and wanting to see more of that effort on the ice just shows the potential we all think this market holds. Over the last week is the first time i've heard Sly acknowledge that 2025-2026 actually looks really good if certain pieces are kept in place. Most fan negativity has stemmed around the complete all in idea for 24-25 as the team showed it doesnt make a lot of sense. I think you'll see everyone buy in if there are smart deals made vs committing to a vision that still doesnt make sense. Which will also start to blend into better coaching, on ice cohesion, etc as things stabilize.
