Surprised he'd even cross the causeway after he pissed off a good part of the population here with his comments about the snowstorm in February as for an infrastructure funding announcement for Centre 200 as nice as it would be I'd only believe it when I see it in writing.

He was here to witness the entire pallett talk/argument/debate debacle and thanks to local incompetence had to somewhat be the voice of reason in the room. Now that Curling is over it makes sense to hear about what the next investments will be. We all know there are things coming.

I mean of course things are coming he has an election coming between now and July next year that he has to look good for, but unless I see something written and signed that Centre 200 is getting money for wanted renovations/upgrades that this time last year was listed at 10 million it's just speculation.

So can't we take a step back from the political talk and just agree that we know talks were being had with all levels (all still currently elected and a good 15 months each from elections) going back 11 months and if he's going to be here there's potentially something coming out of it? There wasn't going to be an announcement ahead of the Curling because none of the money would impact that event anyway. But now that Curling is here and gone and was a huge success and we hear the Premier will be here...whats the issue with the speculation? I doubt he's coming and they're pushing it because he's buying a seat to watch a Q playoff game. Its ok to remove the politics of the politician from time to time. Polarizing every conversation because a politician is involved is much worse then any speculation around C200 upgrades.

Sorry Jack I agree with pretty much everything your saying it's just hard for me to separate the politician from the politics at times.

Sorry Jack I agree with pretty much everything your saying it's just hard for me to separate the politician from the politics at times. It would be nice to find a way for the discussions to simply be more productive. Like in this case, from my perspective, the province has only ever sat at the table with CBRM and the feds to discuss funding things like this and have generally been on board once everyone can agree where some funds should go. Houston himself doesn't have any hate on for CB. He fed into the equalization crowd with his 1 time payment. Fighting with the mayor (which is what the snowstorm stuff was about) is as much on her and that team at the Civic Center as it is on he and his ministers refusing to really sit down and negotiate anything with CBRM. And even if he comes and says here's $5 million from Halifax for C200...80% of the response will be how its not spent on housing or health care. There's definitely a can't win aspect for any provincial or federal politician making an announcement here.

Honestly I feel like that's a big part of my frustration with both the municipal and provincial government is it seems like unless a 3rd party is involved to moderate things when they meet they proceed to fight like cats and dogs then run to the media proclaiming it's the other party's fault that things aren't moving forward and I know that's just a normal thing in politics but man does it ever get frustrating seeing grown adults act like children when they should be working together for the betterment of the people and region they represent.

I think everyone shares the same frustration. Its children being children once there's no 3rd party involved. What drives me is the whining to media over any sort of creative and innovative solution. But we have a certain % here who just loved that type of politics and eats it up as well so in a way they're all playing to a crowd. I have hopes we change that over time. But certain arguments not simply fading away in spite of all the money spent on them and court rulings against them by loud vocal minorities tend to take up a lot of attention here.

The federal and provincial governments are providing a total of $1,700,000 for a new scoreboard at Centre 200 in Sydney.
An investment in a new scoreboard will help Centre 200 continue to welcome athletes and visitors in downtown Sydney.
βThe investment in Centre 200 is more than just an upgrade to its facilities; itβs an investment in the community, the local economy and the provinceβs cultural landscape,β said Premier Tim Houston.
βBy ensuring that Centre 200 remains a premier destination for sports and entertainment, we are reinforcing our commitment to making Nova Scotia a place where communities thrive and visitors create lasting memories.β
Centre 200 draws visitors for major events like the recent 2024 World Womenβs Curling Championship.
The much-needed infrastructure upgrade will receive $850,000 from the province, matched by an equal contribution from the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency.
The funding aligns with the provinceβs goal to help communities become more welcoming, inclusive and accessible. See less

the LED sign ring sounds nice.
βThe addition of the new video scoreboard and LED sign ring will enhance Centre 200βs ability to attract major events into the future. It will also provide new revenue opportunities and enhance the fan experience when attending events at Centre 200.β βΒ Paul MacDonald, Manager, Facilities, Cape Breton Regional Municipality

It's just the province matching the money ACOA gave last June. That said scoreboard is already here. PR stunt from Uncle Timmy.

Heard he got booed, any truth to that? He did indeed, noticeably loud boos both times they introduced him lol. It wasn't just a couple fans booing either. You reap what you sow I guess is the lesson learned there, it was a quite an uncalled for comment at the time.
