It's official on the CHL site that we have Halifax's 2nd pick, 61st overall (1st pick of rd 2). THings are moving along quick so should be within the next half hour or so. Let's hope for a half decent forward

Going by those numbers he was way too good for the U18 1st and 2nd division...and put up great numbers for a 17 year old in the U20 division.

Hoping both report, both to me seem like solid pick ups at the position we got to draft. A solid D that played U18 second pairing, and a solid forward like JB said that showed he could score at any level. Interested in the write up in tomorrows post.

Nikita Pivtsakin: He's a reliable defensive defenseman with good shot and good skating, really motivated to play in North America, I think he's a safe pick and he'll report. Played with Avangard Omsk and also in the recent Under 18 WJC.
From Alessandro Seren Rosso - A guy who knows alot about the Russians

thechronicleherald.ca/Sports/1130025.htmlJust like last year, Mario claims to have "got his man"(even though he had trouble getting a commitment as early as 2 weeks ago which can't be a good thing) Picked up a 6th to move down with Shawinigan. Pretty much nothing on either player in that article, hopefully the CB Post will have a bit more on them tomorrow.

Im interested to see if our Swede will report . Usually Swedes and Fin's dont come to the CHL . I hope Hertzberg does . He seems like a decent offencive player , judging from his stats.

thechronicleherald.ca/Sports/1130025.htmlJust like last year, Mario claims to have "got his man"(even though he had trouble getting a commitment as early as 2 weeks ago which can't be a good thing) Picked up a 6th to move down with Shawinigan. Pretty much nothing on either player in that article, hopefully the CB Post will have a bit more on them tomorrow. Getting the 6th rounder seems to make up for downgrading our 7th rounder to a 9th in the trade with Halifax, in order to move up and select Hertzberg. I know it might seem like piddling stuff, but you can still get pretty good players in rds 6 and 7 so it's important to have picks there. We got Robert Slaney with a 6th. Obviously hard to comment on the Europeans we picked considering how little any of us knows about them. Given his smaller stature, and our lack of any purely offensive defencemen on our current roster, I was hoping Pivtsakin would be more of an offensive D - but there's nothing wrong with another reliable defensive D. Smaller defensive D like that are usually very good skaters and smart players who learn how to avoid getting crushed by bigger guys on the forecheck - because they have to. Hertzberg seems to have scored at every level, although I don't know enough about those European junior leagues to know what the calibres of those leagues would have been. Interesting that he'd be our first-ever Swede. Although not our first Scandinavian - go all the way back to Year One when we had Bard Sorlie out of Norway! He was our top defenceman that year. His final on-ice moment as an Eagle was getting carried off on a stretcher, and giving the thumbs up to the C200 crowd, after getting FLATTENED from behind by the renowned thug known as Simon Gagne. Anyway the Import Draft is a huge crapshoot every year, so hard to really set any expectations for these guys until we seem em in camp!
