Hey Lala your thoughts on going #1 reminded me of the Moose early draft years when we took passed over Briere for Drapeau, also we drafted Troini 1st then Tanguay also we did the same thing the next season picking Binette 1st then Brandon Reid. This supports the theory that going 1st is no guarantee that it is the best player available that year, solid scouting, based on your teams philsophy might be the best measure.

I think 2003 (Crosby) was the last time someone went #1 who was expected to go #1 as of late October. I think Crosby was pegged as number one for that draft aince he was about 10.

Did you see him play these past 2 games? Battling along the boards, throwing body checks, 1st forward back breaking up plays in his own zone. He may not be in top shape just yet, but the improvements are noticable. I dont have anything against the kid...infact when Halifax invited him to camp i distinctly remember saying he has an outside chance of making the team, which is pretty high praise considering he wasnt drafted. The problem with Myers is, for the first 20 seconds of his shift he is great, the last 20 is a completely different story.

I know what you are saying and can't argue with it, but I can tell you that he is trying hard and the difference is noticable. He still has much to learn but is getting it. His offensive abilities are so good, he's using his time to learn the defensive side. His coach has refused to give him icetime until his conditioning was better and his defensive play improved. this past weekend he played 15 minutes plus each game, 2 goals and an assist and was a plus player. He's determined to make the Q and is just now figuring out what it will take to get there

Just because he wasn't drafted, doesn't mean he can't play in the league. Finding those diamonds in the ruff that cost absolutely nothing are nice to come across.

Some kids who get cut at 17 think its game over, but its reallynot.

He's gotten 5 minutes or less in most of his games, yet there are only 8 players with more goals in the league. The fun part is seeing progression in his game. The question will be can he get his overall game up to Q standards

Colby Pridham, Jason King, Franklin MacDonald, David Brine (drafted into the Q though) all carved out good careers in the league and didn't start until 18...... Pridham's first full season wasn't even until 19. Alexis Piette seems on track to follow suit. It's not common, but it happens.

Nick Peterson and Mike Hoffman (less 2 games at 17 with Kitchener) didn't break into Major Junior until they were 18 either. Simon Jodoin looks like he's going to be an above average 20 next year. Heck, Gerrad Grant doing alright too.

To a lesser extent, Mark Lee came to PEI as a FA 19yr old...and was a very solid addition to the team.

done ok for UPEI
he was screwed around midway thru his 19 year old season.. anyhow he was a good Q player who was never drafted and made the team with a strong camp as an 18 y/o.. which was the point of the recent turn in this thread
