Garrett Clarke will be a guest tonight at 6:30AST on Inside the Q.
Be sure to check it out and if you can't listen tonight it will be up on the Q site for the next week.
Oh another note, Clarke is turning to my favorite Moosehead this season. He always brings a great energy and grit to the ice. I can't wait to see him 2 years from now in his 19 year old season.

Garrett is definately one of my favourite players too. He throws the big hits, is not afraid to fight and is pretty amazing with the puck on his stick. He has made some moves this year that are like wow moments. He has..and probably will make some mistakes due to his efforts to make things happen but the good outwigh the bad big time. Even though some of them are young I think even as early as next year.........this may be the best defensive core we have seen in Moose Country.

Gillard is still a work in progress, he has shown flashes but im still not sold on him being a top pair guy at 19. I still think 02/03 is going to go down as the best D... Jurcina - 19 Upshall - 19 Clarke - 19 Villeneuve - 18 Picard - 17 Sharrow - 17 I would even say 04/05 was pretty impressive as well... Beaulieu - 20 Picard - 19 Sharrow - 19 MacDonald - 19 MacAuley - 18 Lomanno - 18 Brault - 18 Right now its too early to tell how good Lewis and Bishop will be at 18, to me Bishop isnt showing progress in his game and Lewis had a good camp but he still hasnt played a game in the Q yet. I think Abeltshauser and Clarke are going to both be impact guys at 19...but after that there are a lot of question marks.

I agree there is still lots of question marks in terms of just how good this defence core can/will be. However I think this group has the best "potential" at being a dominant group then any other young defence corps this organization has had.
Even if Gillard isn't a top pairing guy at 19, he'll be a damn good 3-4 that's for sure.
I hope we can add 1 more blue chipper to the defence either in the trading period or through the draft. We've got good depth, but if we can grab another good prospect, say in the 2nd round next June, then for example if Bishop doesn't pan out or Lewis doesn't develop, we've got depth to allow for that to happen. I get the impression some fans think this group of 5-6 is what we'll go with and leave it at that. But like you said lala, still some unknowns on these young guys.

Except for Lomanno I agree with your analaysis.
I know these kids are young. But Abeltshauser and Clarke have tremendous upside. Hannay and Gilliard I think will get there. Dimiturk has impressed me and you have Lewis and Bishop in the wings. For sure question marks but I think nexts years Dee will be the best since 04/05

Lomanno was our 6th dman that year though...so you have to put it into context.

I don't think I've seen a Moose player that could stand up to hits like he could. Very rarely did he get knocked off his feet but I think Hannay is already a bit better with the puck and for a big guy Brault didn't fight. Yes he dropped the gloves a few times but he'd just wrestle his opponents. Both of them topped out are best suited to 3rd pairing roles but i think Hannay will bring a bit more in that role.

Yeah I dont remember us ever having such a big amount of quality young defense at one time. The potential, in say 2 years, is better than I remember in the past. Adding another Picard or Jurcina type would be a great addition too. Havent seen Albethauser enough to comment but does he seem to have potential to be a higher end offensive defenseman?

There is something about Hannay that I like. I think his hockey ''sense'' will get better in the long run and maybe taking some power skating lessons will help him.

I would say that Sawyer Hannay has already surpassed JF Brault who really couldn't stick in Junior 'A'. To put these two players in the same sentence is unfair and not accurate, Hannay will be a safe 5/6 th D-man who can play against the other teams 3rd and 4th lines while providing a drop the gloves kinda guy who will allow Clarke more time to stick to hockey, JF Brault filled a Moose jersey will no other qualities, I'm really surprised LALA that you would make that statement at tis point of the game.

Why? Do you not remember JF Brault at 17?? He went into the tank at 18 because of injuries but at 17 he was very similar to Hannay, without the ability to fight. EDIT: Plus, you just said Hannay will be a 5th/6th dman...just what do you think Brault was?? He could barely keep his spot in JR A at 20 because of the injuries and he started going downhill about halfway thru his 18 year old season. You look at the finished product of Brault and you forget what he was at 17.

Brault went from being a future star at 17 years to being booed at 20 years old...
