Brannon is prone to concussions and his physical play may limit his playing time. Losing Brannon was not that bad but Barbeiro was tough but to take a shot you need a horse and Bourdon filled the void. Obviously we would not have made the trade two or three years ago based on our projected playoff run. At times I think that Bourdon filled the void, but at other times I think back to plays like the Foreurs' extremely crucial first goal in Game 7. They were down 1-0 heading into the third, things were actually looking reasonably good for the Eagles, but that goal just seconds into the period really turned the tide in Vdo's favour and they never looked back. On the play, the puck was thrown into our zone and Bourdon basically coasted back after it. This Team Canada all-star/guy with NHL experience basically coasted back towards it, and was horribly beaten to it by Brad Marchand...... even though Bourdon had a sizeable head start on Marchand. Brad took it, wheeled around the net, and threw it out front to Roy who scored to begin the end for the Eagles. As well as Luc played during much of the series, one fan told me that that play was his lasting impression of Bourdon as an Eagle. Too harsh? You be the judge I guess. But in light of plays like that, it's hard to swallow the fact that we lost Barberio.......... who could end up better than Bourdon when all is said and done. I know alot of people will disagree but I wouldn't be suprised if Barberio is better this year than Bourdon was last year.

I know alot of people will disagree but I wouldn't be suprised if Barberio is better this year than Bourdon was last year. What? You think Barbario would be good enough to crack an NHL lineup this year? As Bourdon almost made the Canucks last year. Just because you premise your statement with "alot of people will disagree with me" doesn't mean you can say things that are out to lunch. Just like saying "with all due respect" doesn't mean you can follow that up with disrespectful comments. Barbario might become better than Bourdon, but at 17 he won't be better than Bourdon at 19

At the start of last year I think I remember that the Canucks had several regular defencemen injured and Luc Bourdon had a great chance to make the team. I was actually surprised when he didn't after his Team Canada success out in Vancouver.

I agree greatest, Barbario at 17 is not going to be a Bourdon at 19 but with that he has to improve a lot more than he showed last year to make the canucks. If anything hes dropped off and rumor has it he has loss his flavor with the big club.

Deer, I agree with the coasting but with Bartulis in the box and a faceoff outside the line after an offside why run with 3 forwards across? Marchand pushed the puck deep no forward dropped back and bingo a goal scored. We should have had 2 D men out there on that god damn play!

I was actually surprised when he didn't after his Team Canada success out in Vancouver. In fairness, he was just recovering from that broken ankle or fibula or whatever it was that he sustained in the second half of the previous season. But I too expected him to make the Canucks last year (based on all the hype he received the year before) and was surprised when he was returned to junior.

Barbario might become better than Bourdon, but at 17 he won't be better than Bourdon at 19 Sorry I should re-phrase that. I would rather have Barberio on my team at 17 than having a 19 yo Bourdon. Bourdon may have played at a higher level, but during his time in the Q I wouldn't exactly say he was a man amongst kids. If Bourdon would've put in more than a half ass effort during his time in the Q I wouldn't make that type of comment, but since he didn't I wouldn't call that a "disrespectful" comment.

Mr. Bean, they may have gone with 3 forwards because they had Luc Bourdon back on defence. It should have been a routine play for a take charge type of defenceman to hustle back and pick up the puck and take it to safety behind the net. It didn't happen unfortunately.
On second thought, it should have been a routine play for any Q defenceman!
