I was at the game and.... First, on Clarke. He has developed such a bad stigma among fans, home and away, that he has quite literally become public enemy #1. He had a solid game yesterday. Anyone complaining about his play is just being picky. He played clean, kept out of trouble (ref gave him and Wright misconducts for nothing) and had a good all around game. Yet, the Moosehead season ticket holder I was sitting with had nothing but negatives to say about him the whole game. I understand he's given himself a bad rep, but when he plays well, and still gets trashed, that's not right. By the way, the PEI fans booed him every time he touched the puck... I LOVE it. Regarding the team. Well, as I can only see them when they come to visit the Island, I watched them in preseason, before Christmas, and again yesterday. As a team, I saw no improvement. Some individuals have improved like Desjardins, Andrews, Corbeil, Gillard, Albetshauser, but overall as a team, they still stink. I was disgusted in the first period when they couldn't even pass the puck to one another. I felt like I was watching a bunch of Jr A players who've never played together ever. How does this happen over a 68 game schedule? Halifax was on the powerplay the whole 2nd period, including 2 lengthy 5 on 3's. The only scoring chances they had were where Knotek shot laserbeams into the boards 3 feet above the net. Corbeil made the save of the year in the first. I don't remember which Rocket player he robbed, but it was a thing of beauty. I wonder how many season ticket holders will put up with this if no positives come out of next season? The way I look at Clarke is this- it's great to have a player that other team's fans HATE; he may be a prick to play aginst, but he is OUR prick ;D -that said, he does have to grow up which he hopefully will and it sounds like he finally started getting the message towards the end of the year.

save of the year Gman? not likely he reached back and Pelletier, yes that guy, slid the puck into his glove... luckiest save of all time would be closer to reality than save of the year lol
as for the Moose.. they battled which I suppose you like to see... it was hard to tell if they really played that well or just were the beneficiary of essentially 15 minutes of consecutive powerplays... but no matter they competed ... I was more impressed with the fact there were so many Moose fans at the game... that's dedication there... a non playofff team for 2 straight years, hard to accomplish, playing out the string in March and a busfull of their fans travel to watch them play.. classy.. kudos to you folks

I will be there next season and I have seen improvement in this team from Sept to their home closer in Feb; they were a hard working team and they will be better and improved next season the last 2 seasons have been because of all the assets we gave away for Brad Marchand which may have been worth it depending on how you look at it. (I quite liked having Marchand on our team but was disgusted when he spent their final game in the stands)!!!

A little harsh with the comment about no improvement. Add to 'some individuals have improved like Desjardins, Andrews, Corbeil, Gillard, Albetshauser', Gelinas, Hannay, Lemieux, Clarke. It is hard for kids to develop at a rapid pace when they do not play with the highly skilled players on the team. Andrews, Gelinas and Lemieux played almost the entire season together and I saw tremendous improvement, especially with there willingness to drive to the net, 1st in the corners or taking hits to make plays. I think Gillard is going to be a star in this league at 19. He showed great composure for a 17 year old rookie. Overall, for lacking alot of scoring punch, they were in a lot of games and actually upset the top teams, I believe 3 times. They played a progressively tougher brand of hockey as the year went on. You really can't set expectations too high in this scenario.

My criticism was that as a team, I saw little to no improvement in the 3 times I saw them play this year (beginning, middle, and end of the season). I guess my point is, they were very out of synch with each other yesterday, which is not something you typically see from a young team that has grown together for 7 months. They seemed like complete strangers to one another at times, and that is a bit disturbing, considering most of them will be back next year, and counted on to lead the charge. bois... it was a pretty athletic play for Corbeil to even get the glove there. Pelletier thought he had the easy slide in, but a quick (lucky, whatever) glove saved the day. IMO it was a spectacular save.

Grant seemed to stumble down the stretch on the top line and was replaced by Desjardins at times who was playing well. Maybe the most cohesive line and the best surprise for the early half of the season was Gelinas - Andrews - Lemiuex... was split up with Lemieux being out a month or so with mono and Gelinas missing the last 10 games or so. I think some of those injuries and changes hurt. I think what's been most out of sync was the PP over the last 15 or so games. For the first half of the year the PP was pretty weak and mostly around 16%. It seem to catch fire around Christmas and jumped to about 20% only to fall again at the end of the year.

Gman, you are making an observation on 3 games and you make it as if it is fact. Not once do you state that maybe they had a bad game yesterday or maybe that 1 game you saw in mid season was their best game of the year where it all just came together. Both of these would skew your viewing of a team that made no improvements. To say "they have made no improvements" based on viewing 3 games is something everyone ridicules chsb for doing. There are so many factors to look at when looking at improvements and a 3 game viewing out of 68 really restricts the equation.

I believe we really have improved over all this season at least what I have seen being at every game but one this season; but maybe I'm just being a naive Moose fan!!! Maybe based on the games Gman saw they had 3 really bad games

However, me saying and I quote: "I saw no improvement" (which led to me saying they still stink- which is hard to disprove judging by yesterday's game) is NOT stating fact- it's stating an opinion. Sure, I may not have much to go on, but generally a team will appear more cohesive in game 68 than game one, from what I witnessed, that was not the case. I guess I'm criticising the coaching staff, more than the players here. I just wasn't being forthcoming about it. I was hoping someone would pick up on it and save me from having to spell it out.

Actually I had read it that you were more criticizing the coaching staff more than the players. Also you will note, I didn't disagree with you, just found it odd that you didn't allow any wiggle room. In your opinion the team didn't improve, but the sample size you used was extremely small. I think every Moose fan should be concerned about the coaching staff. While Cam has shown he is a good GM and he has a plan in place. He hasn't shown yet if he can coach a contending team. His positives in coaching are: 1. the players never quit 2. He didn't over play his players, rolled the lines even as the losses piled up. That shows he is not going to panic. 3. He didn't have players riding the stands 4. Work ethic. Not many nights were the Moose out worked, just out skilled. But he hasn't shown he can lead a contender. To his defense, he really only had one contender and it wasn't his type of players. Cam is a coach who can lead hard workers (kind of like Jodoin or MacKenzie), but not star studded teams like Mongrain.

Cam is instilling a culture right now where the players work their asses off every night- that is going to help over the next couple years where they will be bringing in skill players who will learn the system and be Cam Russell players, just with some skill. I think that Desjardins and Gelinas will really take off next year as they obviously have skill but with confidence they will hit more plays next year.

That's just it- I didn't see a system- at least not an effective one. Maybe Cam isn't the problem. Donnelly is the offensive coordinator, and I'm pretty sure he is responsible for the PP. Maybe it's time for a new face on offense? Defence wasn't really that bad. It looked worse because Corbeil gave up a lot of juicy rebounds, but Halifax did an ok job of limiting the PEI chances. First pass was a huge problem, and really the main reason I mentioned anything, but I blame that as much on some of the forwards either 1) being in the wrong position 2) not being ready and 3) having hands of stone.

Honestly I would like to see a more dynamic power play and by that I mean more motion on the power play but for now and possibly early next year that will have to be on the back burner as 1) they need more skilled players to do that obviously and 2) those players have to have more experience and become more confident in the process. My ideal power play would be the one that Moncton threw out last night when they scored to go up 3-1 against Saint John- that goal was a thing of beauty.

The save is part of the plays of the week, looks like save of the week anyways lol... beauty save. I actually thought the guy had scored until they showed it the second time.
Moose had a couple nice goals in the highlights as well.
