Ok if im so nuts, deer why dont you give me the pleasure (since you seem to have an infatuation with Sheppard and will probably know this) give me and example of when Sheppard has stuck up for his teamates not even by dropping the gloves but maybe even shoving or getting in someones face and let them know hes not intimidated Sheppard is no wuss. He even fought Spencer two years ago.

Sheppard seemed plenty upset several times last night so while he didn't fight it wasn't like his was immune to the extra attention. After Hillier's fight, Sheppard was upset and yelling at him... same things after the big hit in the third period. And once the ref came over Sheppard complained to him. And didn't Sheppard sit in the box for 10 minutes... after the Hillier fight. While I'd like to see Hillier on the ice instead of fighting I actually liked the super pest type of game he played last night... Hillier is better when he's got some fire to his game. Some good hits, lots of shots, picked up a goal, I didn't really see him as being way off his game. The problem with Hillier ever since he got drafted hes been inconsistant. Maybe thats the way he needs to bring up his game. Last couple of times I saw him, hes playing like he would rather be somewhere else. Different players Pridham, macmillian and others have certainly passed him on performance.

Some of the posts on this thread are just laughable, Sheppard is the second best player to come out of the Halifax area only behind Sid. He doesn't need to fight and to be honest if he and Hillier did drop the gloves I'm sure he'd mop the ice with Hillier. He's got nothing left to prove in this league and he will see time with the Wild, maybe not this year but if not then in the near future.

I'm confused. How is jumping a 16 year old who had nothing to do with the hit from behind, sticking up for your teammates? I'm almost positive that if Sheppard comes back to the Q that he'll find time to "stand up for himself" when he doesn't have to worry about the 5 fight rule in pre-season and when he doesn't have to worry about a possible hand injury just before pro camp. James will have to wait for Kubus to come hold a guys arms though so Sheppard can drop his gloves..... Guys do stupid things every now and then. Sheppard has jumped players in the past. He's no saint. I don't know why Voracek jumped the guy. I don't know if he knew he was 16, or if he thought he was a different player. I don't know if he thought a line brawl was going to start, and just grabbed the first guy he saw. What number was the player wearing, and who wore that number in their last game? He could have thought it was somebody else. Who wore the number last year? He might have thought that was the guy he was jumping?

Even in those cases Sheppard is very very unlikely to fight. I think the guy only has one or two fights in all his preseason, regular season and playoff games. I don't say he has to fight but I don't think I've ever really seen him stand up for himself or someone else in regards to the tough side of the game. He has one - a couple years back against James Pouliot. I can't remember him having any others and am too lazy to look. EDIT: OK i looked while i was waiting for the third period - www.hockeyfights.com/players/2737The fight with Pouliot, was the fight in which Sheppard jumped Pouliot (which I eluded to in my post above). I remember the incident vividly. Asselin ran MacAskill from behind, driving the then 16 year old into the boards. I think this happened early in the game, perhaps the first shift. This was the 2nd game, in a home and home between the teams, and in the first game, Asselin hit Bryce Swan from behind, sending Swan to the shelf (seperated shoulder) for his first of many injuries that season. Somebody jumped Asselin right away, and I think it was Cabana. Pouliot made a bee-line for Sheppard, dropped his gloves and went after him. Sheppard wouldn't drop his gloves right away.... I can't say for sure but I think it was because he wasn't sure if Asselin was involved in a fight, and didn't want a game-misconduct for being the 2nd fight on the ice......... anyway, Kubus then grabs Pouliot, knocks Pouliot's helmit off in the process. Sheppard then sees there is no other fights on the ice, and drops his gloves and begins to fight Pouliot, while Kubus still has Pouliot's arms tied up. Justin Saulnier thens starts screaming at Sheppard from the bench, and later in that game, Saulnier suckers Sheppard with a forearm in the neutral zone as pay back. I think Saulnier was suspended for that. Now, I don't think that makes Sheppard dirty, or cheap for jumping a guy. That shit happens during a hockey game, especially when involving teenagers who can't always keep their emotions in check. I don't think it means Sheppard is a p***y, or afraid to mingle with Pouliot straight up. Same as I don't believe Jakub Voracek acted gutless. He acted on emotion, and probably regrets it happing after the fact.

Another point to throw in there. I though Nick MacNeil looked horrible out there, you'd think he would have worked on his foot speed in the off-season.

Looked like Hillier was right ancy on flirting with Sheppard as far as I'm concerned. Maybe he didn't want to risk putting his team down on a power play by taking an instigating minor.

Nick MacNeil always looks horrible out there ;D, then you look at the summary and see he's got a goal or point or two. One of the most awkward looking skaters I've ever seen, but give him credit he gets the job done.

I agree, and he hasn't been much better than that (that I have seen) all camp. If he wasn't a returning player I don't know what his situation would be. The guy is very good around the net but he's really lacking not only in his skating but in his on-ice vision. He skates with his head down while he has the puck, and as a result doesn't see/use his linemates. His stats last year were 14 G and TWO assists.......... and it's no fluke at all. I'm personally not a fan of his style of play but when he gets the puck alone in the slot he does seem to have a bit of an uncanny ability to bury it. However he must be a very frustrating player to play on a line with.
