It looks as if Columbus rookie defenseman David Savard will start the season in the NHL. The talented rearguard had an impressive pre-season and with the demotion of John Moore seems to be set as one of the Jackets' top seven blueliners. Savard has offensive ability as his 43 points in 72 games last season in the AHL can attest. Although James Wisniewski and Grant Clitsome are likely to get the bulk of playing time on the Jackets' power play, we expect Savard to pick up some minutes on the second PP unit. Keep him mind when defensemen pickings get slim at the end of the draft Wisniewski will be missing the first 8 regular season games. That might give Savard some time on the 1st PP to start the season. Coincidentally, Wisniewski will be back just before Savard reaches the 10 games mark. What happens at the 10 game mark? He turns into a pumpkin?

No, Columbus is usually out of the playoff picture by that time ;D

At the risk of sounding very dumb for the second time today... I don't understand your comment. After nine games, doesn't it count for his first contract year which means he would reach FA earlier?

This is the 2nd year of his deal no matter where he plays.

His 2nd year of contract will kick in anyways because if he doesn't get to 10 games in the NHL he certainly will in the AHL so it makes no difference.

He could blow his knee out tomorrow and miss the entire season before playing 1 game and his 2nd year will kick in.

Philippe Dupuis made the Leafs. That's almost a demotion. Would the AHL be higher caliber?
Sorry, just a longtime Leafs fan's frustration. Maybe this year will be the year the Leafs win the Stanley Cup (no, I couldn't say that with a straight face). ;D

Leafs picked up Steckel which could mean Dupuis will head to AHL eventually.

Former Wildcat Vyacheslav Voynov has been called up by the LA Kings to replace Drew Doughty who as been placed on Injured Reserve. So, when should we expect to see his picture on the Coliseum wall? ;D
