I saw that Steve Bernier has been signed to a professional tryout with the NY Islanders ... had a strong year last year - kind of surprising he couldn't parlay that into a 1 year contract somewhere. I think all the PTO's are a result of the weak Canadian dollar and cap that hasn't gone up as much as was thought. Less money in the system than they thought so bottom of the roster vets pay the price. I think Chicago still had Oduya and Kruger dangling also.

How does a weak Canadian Dollar relate to the Islanders and other US based teams ? I am not an NHL Cap Geek follower so it is probably related to something I simply don't pay attention to.

A lot of NHL revenue is in Canadian funds...8 NHL teams with good revenue(attendance + local TV money) plus the big national Rogers TV deal, when you take 40 of your total income and you reduce it by 33%(difference in exchange from par 2 years ago) it affects the bottom line. It also impacts revenue sharing with the smaller low income clubs that was part of the last CBA. news.nationalpost.com/sports/nhl/lower-canadian-dollar-could-have-huge-impact-on-nhl-teams-affect-cflwww.theglobeandmail.com/sports/hockey/loonies-free-fall-is-bad-news-for-the-nhl/article22616925/

Hmmm ... I guess. I'll wrap my head around that one for awhile.

Hmmm ... I guess. I'll wrap my head around that one for awhile. Think of it this way - salary cap is set in USD, based on USD leaguewide hockey related revenue (HRR). But a good portion of that HRR is actually earned in CDN dollars - so with the drop in the CDN dollar, it translates to less USD revenue, and puts a drag on the cap. Stars are always going to get paid - but it takes away from what might be left to pay bottom of roster vets.

Former Wildcat prospect Frank Vatrano leads the AHL with 7 goals in 5 games. He only played NCAA for one year. I'm sure his 1 year of university will be a lot to fall back on after his hockey career lol. Would have been nice to have in a Cats uniform that's for sure.

I don't think he was ever a big fan of the Q, he sat out a year playing USHL or NAHL to transfer universities and didn't come here instead.

This non-Wildcat alumni got his first NHL goal in his first NHL game. Would have been nice to have seen him in a Cats uniform. Oh well.
