Is the official protect date going to be before the draft? In other words, if I decide I want to protect someone for another GM, can I trade the player at the draft or do I have to wait longer? Protect lists will be due August 1. I'll post the lists shortly thereafter. Once protected lists are finalized, trades can continue, but players NOT on any list are not under contract to any team, and can't be dealt. Trades between August first and the start of the draft can only include protected players, and draft picks. If you acquire a player during this time, you can keep him on you protected list as well as the five you've protected, essentially acquiring the protection slot in the trade.

if we are adding 3 more players to the roster, what abotu numbers for 20's and euros??
Would It be fair to say the flex spot could be used for an additional 20 or additional euro? Or because the rosters are getting bigger add a hard number to both?
this would make a difference on protected lists at the end of the year as well.
Curious on how we could handle this.

My thought is that IF the roster grows by three spots, you get EITHER one more Euro, or one more OA, your choice, but again, this would be subject to league vote.

What is the reasoning behind only allowing 5 players to be protected? Not that I mind, just curious. My asking is because if someone decides to go full rebuild and manages to load up on say 10 upper tier 16-18 years olds by unloading their older players, why should they have to allow five of those youngsters to go back into the draft? The five protected is to keep the off-season interesting. You really have to think about who you keep, who you expose, and whether to deal. It also promotes competition, as it become less attractive to fill you team full of the first round of the last draft and sit a wait a few years. I've been in keepers where you could keep as many as you want, and others where you keep only a third. I think the right balance is somewhere around half.

The thing about GWGs is if you score the third goal in a 13-2 win you get an extra point...how is your goal anymore important than the other 12? Then again, I never understood why people got extra points for PPG in some pools. If anything it should be worth less points. 0.5 point for PP assists. 1 point for even strenght and 2 points for shorthanded goals. That's always how I would do it but for some reason pool junkies love to double the value of the easiest time to get points. I understand what you're saying here. I feeel the same about PPG or SHG. No more important than an even strength goal on the scoreboard, so why in the pool? I really don't see a need to add any scoring categories, but there has been some desire to do so. Right now, I use these pages for scoring: theqmjhl.ca/stats/show/type/skaters/ls_season/171/ls_team/5There is another big report that I am looking at: cluster.leaguestat.com/download.php?client_code=lhjmq&file_path=daily-report/daily-report.htmlThe bottom half has a ton of stats we can look at, but it's not terribly easy to read, and formatted a little strange for a straight import. I've got time, so I'm working on getting the spreadsheet to use these numbers, but I don't want to have to manually scan for import errors everytime, so I have to get it right programmatically. For this reason, I'm a little leery about adding any stats other than what I see in the first link above.

I also agree with the GWG thing where sometimes its not really a "clutch" goal, but a lot of times it is clutch. Plus I'd rather see someone get a bonus point for a GWG in a 13-2 game instead of getting like THREE bonus points for scoring THREE power play goals in a 13-2 game.

Time to start thinking about things for next year. I'll make it clear here that NONE of these changes will have any effect on the pool this year. Specifically I want to put forth a few proposals. We can debate wording in here before I put them to a formal vote, so if you want to propose an amendment, now is the time. Proposal one: Increase skating scoring categories to include PPG and SHG, each worth one point each. Proposal two: Award an expansion Franchise to bring increase membership to twenty Proposal three: Implement a draft lottery to determine the selection order of the non-playoff teams Proposal four: Increase the roster sizes to include 3 more skaters: one F, one D and one flexible spot that can be either D or F I'll try to summarize the discussion for each proposal and add it above. Once we seem to have stopped evolving each proposal and the details are defined, we'll put it to a formal vote. If you have another proposal you'd like considered, list it in this thread. If you can get one other GM, to "second" your proposal, we'll add it to the conversation above and have a formal vote on it. To ALL owners: please participate in this thread. Everyone's input is important. In summary and for BB convenience: Proposal One: No to power play goals. Yes to short handed goals worth an extra point. Would also be okay with Game Winning Goals being an extra point as well. Proposal Two: Yes make the league 20 teams by adding a franchise Proposal Three: Yes to draft lottery of some form, depending on format of course. Proposal Four: Okay with expanding rosters, depending on positional makeup (the 1D, 1F and a flex is fine with me, more curious about if extra Euro and/or OA would be allow if three extra spots passes)

Unofficial poll on roster spots: How many would you add? Which positions? Add Overagers? Add Euros? Add Goalies?

Draft lottery proposal: the seven non-playoff teams go in.
19th place gets 10 balls 18th gets 6 17th gets 5 16th gets 4 15 gets 3 14 gets 2 13 gets 1
If we expand, the expansion team goes in the lottery with 10 balls and can't pick lower than third.
First ball drawn picks first. Next ball drawn picks second, unless that team is picking first, then the ball is discarded and another chosen. This continues through all lottery picks.
Playoff teams will pick in reverse order of regular season finish.
The lottery only affects the first round. All subsequent rounds will be in reverse order of finish. The draft will not "snake".

When will the BOG be meeting to decide if expansion will take place or not? The Englishtown Explosion are ready to pay the expansion fee. However they need to hire staff and they have their eye on a Assist GM in the league now. The owners would have to work out something with the team that employs him now. The Explosion wish to keep the name secret at this time in fear of another team trying to poach him!

That's our other issue about expansion - since the league membership was finalized in the summer, three different people have inquired about getting in on it.
I know it's early, but is anyone considering NOT renewing their franchise next year?

We could have a grueling week long competition involving everything from trivia, beer drinking to rock climbing to decide the expansion franchise. Or we can just go with a beer auction. Whoever is willing to buy more beer for the 19 current owners gets in. The Leo Guy way if you will.

I am renewing but would like to offer my full support behind the Englishtown bid for expansion Because of your early support for this franchise's campaign the BOG will need access to your financial records and justification of all suspect tranactions.
