Just wondering what the thoughts were of the D, if you consider that the top four spots are taken without question between Lassard, Southorn, Gervais and Swit, that leaves three spots left to be rotated amongst the rest. The issue I see is that Malouin may not be to happy to rotate once again in and out of the line-up being that he is a second year player and feels that he paid his dues last year. I don't see a problem with Clow and the seventh, actually I see Clow being number 5. Like I said the top four are sealed and delivered and the others are not going to touch them, the last three is were the issue lies, especially with Malouin, any thoughts. Clow has been very smooth and will likely get second pairing ice time and PP time, (likely not as much PK time). Although there is nothing wrong with him sitting out the odd game early on as well. I thought Malouin looked very good out there and I agree with you that he paid his dues and worked hard last season only playing in 28 gms with limited mins. But that doesn't entitle him to anything I simply think he benefited from being with the team and working hard to continue his development. This season I see Malouin sharing some time with Deighan (not necessarily equal though). And when you factor in a rotation and potential injuries/suspensions this is what I would prefer to see: Clow play about 65 games (sit 5 or so as a healthy scractch). Malouin to play about 55 games (sit 10 - 15 games) and Deighan play about 40 games (normal for a rookie defenseman on a good team). But the big difference from last year should be that our 6th defenseman should get regular ice time. Then next season we will have 4 quality 18 yr olds all capable of Top 4 ice time plus Gervais which will be a solid core. Malouin may not be flashy but I really love his style of game and I think many will be impressed with Malouin's development and contributions over the course of this season.

Early this morning, the P.E.I. Rocket announced 2 more cuts from its Training Camp Roster. The Rocket has cut 17 yr old wingers Olivier Morin and Ryan Mitchell. This leaves a total 30 players including 3 goalies, 9 defenseman and 18 forwards, remaining at the P.E.I. Rocket Training Camp. The 30 players do not include 17 yr old forward Chris Doyle who has recently returned to the island from Ivan Hlinka memorial under-18 tournament in the Czech Republic. Coach Yanick Jean has given Chris a few days off to recover from his rigorous schedule before he returns to the ice on Friday with the Rocket.

I forget what is the maximum roster number and when it has to be cut down to that amount, but going by that list with 3 goalies, 8 defenseman and 19 forwards, I would say the next set of cuts will be at forward and possibly in nets. I think they will give the current D a long look which is why I think that last cuts will be on defense, and that's if they will make any more cuts there.
My guess for the next cuts wil be Jordan Burke, Nathan Desroches, Brendon Wright and possibly John Waye. I don't think that it's because they had terrible camps or anything like that, but at this point I think it could be more of a numbers game instead of bad performances. I think that Savard, Jean, etc are going to have to make some hard decisions in the next week or so.

There is no max roster number...a team can carry 50 players if it wants...so i guess 50 is the MAX...but its pretty much unlimited for all intents and purposes as no team would carry 50 lol

Right on, for some reason I thought that there was a limit for how many players a team can carry on their roster.....thanks for the clarification!
I can't see teams carrying 50 players either, it would be pretty cramped on the bus for the road trips...lol

I'll look it up when I get a chance.

Halifax carried 26 two years ago and I remember John Moore asked Marcel what was up with that and he said the Q has no rules for the limit on the amount of players you can carry... Unless they changed the rules since then i dont believe there is a max of 25.

Admin Rule 3.01.4 a) Each club may simultaneously use 45 major junior registration certificates for eligible players to sign.
b) At noon on January 10th, there should remain a maximum of 25 players including at least two goaltenders on the list of the team out of all those who have signed such a certificate.
c) Qualification certificates may be signed by eligible players no later than midnight on February 10th.A subsequent rule says you can have more than 25 if a pro player is returned after Jan 10 and you already had 25 players.
