Cape Breton is missing an awful lot of offense tonight with Shep and Ouellet not dressing and Culligan back home in Sydney. Joey Haddad also has the potential for a very productive year.

CAP - Dominic Fontaine (00:55)(maj.), CAP - Dominic Fontaine (00:55)(exp.), PEI - Brendon Wright (00:55)(maj.), PEI - Maxim Cliche (04:41), PEI - Brett Morrison (06:02)
must have been a scrap 2 start off the 3rd but my question is what is exp? are they putting expolsion now instead of g.misc for a game misconduct

Hm so I Just found out now that this game was even happening! I'm guessing for us no Sheppard as I think they said he'll rest for NHL camp from here on in. Also no Culligan, Haddad, Brad Gallant, or Beau Prokopetz as they're all nursing minor (we think) injuries. I also think Sam Finn may be out of the lineup with injury, but I'm not 100% sure on that. Here's to a good game. Has anyone ever seen a good, or even a mildly entertaining, exhibition game? In any sport? Any league? I did less than 24 hours ago, since you asked.

they used the term expulsion on quite few occassions last year. im not sure, but think it might have something to do with gross misconducts, 2nd fight, stuff like that. they also use game misconduct.

Kris Schmidt has a good game with 2 goals.
Marek Benda for Cape Breton was playing unbelivable tonight.

Boring pre-season game, nice win by the Rocket though....and nice to get back to the civic centre. Wasn't that many people there, if I had to guess I would say around 400-500

I sit in section 1, and I noticed that the time has a few lights gone in it which made it hard to tell how much time was left.

I sit in section 1, and I noticed that the time has a few lights gone in it which made it hard to tell how much time was left. It's a tradition at The Morgue - missing lights, that is. On another note, they did fix up the bathrooms, and the ice looks nice, what with bright red and blue lines.....they should redo those at least twice during the season, the lines get awfully faded and tired-looking by December. Rocket logo at center ice looks nice also, but man, it's really dark! Initially, I thought it was black, but I guess it's dark blue.....just not Rocket blue, that's all. Did they announce attendance?

A game expulsion is different from a game misconduct. When you accumulate too many game misconducts you get a suspension. That doesn't apply to expulsions.
Also, you never "repaint" lines. The lines are painted very deep in the ice. They get faded when the ice gets too thick. You plane the ice which makes it thinner which makes the paint darker.

Schmidt looked good tonight in his role. Tossed his body around and he got noticed for sure. After seeing him tonight, I too think he would be a welcome addition to the Rockets 3rd line.

It's not rocket science Kristopher Schmidt uses his simple formula in scoring a pair of goals in a pre-season The Guardian
Two goals in the second period from hopeful Kristopher Schmidt paced the P.E.I. Rocket to a 5-2 win over the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League pre-season action Wednesday at the Civic Centre.
The Rocket is Schmidt’s third QMJHL team in two years.
Last season, Acadie-Bathurst plucked Schmidt from the Mississauga Chargers of the Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League before shipping him to Drummondville at Christmas.
As an invitee, Schmidt has simple formula to stick with the Rocket.
“Just work hard, go to the net, play my hardest every shift, throw some hits . . . and good billets,” said Schmidt, a Mississauga, Ont., native who is rooming with Rocket media liaison Tom Tessier during the training camp.
“(And to) think of it shift by shift, not for the long-term,” Schmidt added.
The calculation worked as he added two hits, three shots and a plus three plus-minus ratio to his stats sheet.
With Wednesday’s win, the Rocket lifted its pre-season record to 3-2 while Cape Breton dropped to that mark.
P.E.I. took a 2-0 first-period lead on goals by Martin Latal and Albany’s Greg Paynter, who each scored their first of the pre-season.
In the second period, Cape Breton’s Alexandre Quesnel sandwiched his first exhibition goal between Schmidt’s pair.
But the 19-year-old right winger hasn’t nailed his game action descriptions just yet.
“I don’t know. They’re all fun,” said Schmidt, who had four assists in 22 games with the Titan and the Volts last season.
This season changes are afoot for Cape Breton starting with goalie Ondrej Pavelec gone to Atlanta. The Thrashers signed the second round pick in 2005 to an entry-level contract in May.
Without the two-time Jacques Plante trophy winner in the Q for best goals-against average, starting and backup netminding is up for grabs between Kyle Downer, Marek Benda, Cape Breton’s first round Euro pick in 2007, last year’s back-up David Davenport and rookie Olivier Bellevance-Roy.
Also likely departed is defenceman Luc Bourdon and Cam Fergus, making this a very different team.
Torrid pre-season scorer James Sheppard (he’s tallied six goals and 11 points in two pre-season games) didn’t play. Neither did former Rocket Joey Haddad, who was traded to the Eagles in the off-season for defenceman Jason Swit.
Latal and the Eagles’ Robert Slaney exchanged goals in the third period.
Cape Breton went 1-for-5 on the power play in the game while P.E.I. was scoreless in four chances.
Tonight, P.E.I. hosts the Halifax Mooseheads. Game time is 7 p.m.
