I didnt blame the loss on Mosher, I just said he struggled that is all. IMO he is fighting for the back-up job I really dont think he has secured it yet (would I cut him after this game no) and he just didn't play well tonight, you can blame the D to a certain extent but he played his part in it as well. I just didnt feel he played as good as he can play, he fought the puck all night and his rebound control wasn't that great.

Bad game all around. I thought that Mosher didn't have a strong game, if comparing the games that Mosher & Gelinas played, I thought that Gelinas looked better in his game. Latal took some bad penalties and Lachaine had a poor game, he definitely didn't look like a 3rd year player.
Moncton controlled that game even though the shot clock and score didn't reflect it, they had excellent puck control and very good puck posession as they were all over the Rocket.
I know that the makeup of the team will be different next season, but without Walker and Morrison who graduate at the end of the season, they didn't look too strong.

Tonight definitely was a frustrating game to watch and we certainly didn't demonstrate anything closely resembling our A game.
Moncton has a fast and agressive team and out hit and out hustled the Rocket all night long. Though the shots wouldn' t indicate it, other than a couple of spurts, Moncton really took it to us all night long. We were brutal on the PP and failed to convert on the 5 on 3 numerous times. That's always a killer... if you don't score on your 5 on 3's, you look back and usually you end up on the wrong side of the scoreboard.
Mosher rebounded well after a brutal goal within the first minute (a Ryan Mior special) but he did look to be fighting the puck all night. What happens if Gelinas starts tomorrow, stands on his head and steals the game? Just asking... it makes for a trying situation.
Personally, I'll agree that Deighan was the best defenceman out there. Mainly, he was hustling when most of his teammates were mailing the effort in. I think after tonight's game he's pretty well solidified his spot on the opening roster. He was at his best positionally that I've seen in preseason action and responded well to the increased icetime Jean game him. Tonight, Deighan was better than Clow and miles better than Owens.
Owens was stapled to the bench for much of the latter half of the game... after he brutally gave the puck up going through the middle. I think he might be an adequate PP defenceman, but I don't think he's quite big enough or fast enough to keep around ahead of Deighan, particularly now that it looks like Main is going to be used as a defenceman. I'd say Owens will be moved out as soon as Lessard is back from Ottawa's rookie camp.
I'll agree on Swit... he looked to be running around out there all night. I also though Gervais was really suffering... probably due to his injury status. I'd rather him take the time and heal than play through the injury in exhibition, as I really thought he was hindered in taking the man legally. Jordan Southorn sat in the stands tonight and there's no reason to have Gervais in at all when the games don't matter.
I was surprised Little wasn't in tonight. I assume he's still around. I saw a guy who was very tall with the healthy scratches. I figured he'd get 2 exhibition games to prove his worth.
I think at some point during the season we might actually see Morehouse get what we want to see. I can see a guy like Main grabbing on to him when his back is turned and letting loose on him. Maybe, just maybe. Notice Main sticking up for his teammates tonight.
Up front, no forward stepped up and generated offense tonight like we needed. Latal and Doyle had spurts, but neither finished for us. Latal can't afford to be goaded in by the likes of Morehouse as he was at the end of the game. I really like Doyle on the point on the PP. I think he's a good enough skater that we won't get in trouble like we sometimes did with Trukhno there in his time here.
The guys looking for roster spots were just ok tonight. Schmidt didn't score tonight like he has in the past. I'll reiterate... yes, scoring in preseason.... but do we take him on the offense he shows only to put him on a checking line getting 7 mins of ice time... he's 19 and has something like 4 points in 23 Q games. I know, he has been putting up major points before tonight. It's a tough call.
DesRoches looked just ok tonight. The effort was there, but he didn't have the wheels to make a difference tonight. This was the first time in exhibition he looked like was a little behind in terms of getting things done.
Coon-Come played sporadically. I think he's probably on his way out soon, like Owens. We have too many guys playing similar roles generating more offense to keep him around. Skating is great, but we haven't got a lot else out of him.
Somebody should tell Locke and Lachine if they don't want to show up and be leaders in preseason, we have guy fighting for roster spots that might as well play. Both floated around all night with minimal effort and provided little in the way of offensive potential. Locke played very the midpoint of the 2nd. Hopefully a message to a guy who needed it tonight.
I was surprised with how well Wright did against Herr (2 years older). He proved strong enough and tough enough to hang in there against the guy Moncton is using as a heavy this year. Since he's only 17, probably the only fighting experience he has is what he's getting in our camp. So, he has lots to learn and has probably already learned quite a bit. At 17, if he can hang in with guys like Herr, I say keep him (at this point with Little being an unknown). I know the hockey skills are limited. But, say he gets into as many games as Lucas McKinley got into last year. We'll probably not see him hurt us defensively too badly as his ice time will be limited. The upside is that we get to develop a 17 year old fighter who should be very strong for us at 18 and 19. Looking at what Score said about having him cut his teeth for a year with the Caps. I think he can learn as much playing 30-40 games with us fighting Q tough guys. Plus, I think his skating and hockey skills will improve much more in the Q than in Jr. A. Right now, I'm 100% keep Wright on the roster.
I was surprised how out of it Jean was for a guy who calls time outs and throws fits in exhibition games. We were short men a couple of times tonight and the lines were even more messed up and sporadic than usual.
Hopefully much better tomorrow night.

Deighan looks to make a lasting impression Islander gets chance to impress P.E.I. Rocket brass in a 3-1 exhibition loss to Moncton The Guardian
Two goals in the second period was all the Moncton Wildcats needed for a 3-1 win over the P.E.I. Rocket in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League exhibition action Wednesday at the Civic Centre.
With the loss, the Rocket drops to 3-4 while Moncton rises to 4-1 in the pre-season.
While pre-season is about forming a team, it’s also about earning roster spots. Kensington’s Parker Deighan, a fourth-round Rocket pick at the 2007 draft, is one of those hopefuls.
Deighan is a former Summerside Western Capitals defenceman who helped lead the Caps to the MJAHL final last season.
He received gobs of ice time in five-on-five, power play and penalty-killing situations Wednesday, likely getting a good look from Rocket head coach Yanick Jean before Friday’s cuts.
“Every time I go out on the ice I just try to work my hardest and remember what the coaches say in practice. (Training camp’s) been (quite) an experience, for sure. I know I’ll never forget it,” said Deighan, who along with Rocket forward Chris Doyle was a member of P.E.I.’s 2007 Canada Winter Games men’s hockey team. “You come to the rink every day and work hard and hope you eventually crack the lineup.”
Moncton took a 1-0 lead 56 seconds into the first period thanks to a Myles Gomes point shot that bounced in off Rocket goalie Evan Mosher’s left arm.
Then off a two-on-one, P.E.I.’s Jan Kana tied the score eight minutes later on a low outside shot past Moncton netminder Charles Lavigne.
In the second period, Mosher’s glove save on a penalty shot to Moncton’s Matt Eagles was the lone Rocket highlight as Andrew Eastman and Eagles potted goals for a 3-1 Wildcats lead.
A sloppy third period saw just 11 shots overall (seven by P.E.I., four by Moncton), six penalties over the last six minutes and disjointed power plays from both sides.
But on the other blue-line, the game marked Charlottetown native Matt Boyle’s first chance to play in front of his hometown crowd. The 18-year-old Wildcats defenceman was a seventh-round pick by the Wildcats in 2006 and lost all but the first two games of his rookie season to a torn ACL and ripped meniscus cartilage in his left knee.
Following surgery Boyle, who played with the MJAHL’s Charlottetown Abbies two years ago, tried to return last December but re-injured the knee at Wildcats practice.
After a summer rehabbing, he’s playing regularly in the pre-season, but said his on-ice improvement is lacking.
“It’s not where I want to be at, but the positives I can take from it is it’s basically getting better and better every game. As long as it keeps on going that way I feel my development will hopefully be back on track,” said Boyle.
The Rocket were without Brett Morrison (Anaheim), Antoine Lafleur (New York Rangers), Pierre-Luc Lessard (Ottawa) and Geoff Walker (Toronto) who are in their respective teams rookie camps.
Moncton played missing Scott Brannon and Clyde River’s Randy Cameron, who are at the Detroit Red Wings rookie camp, and Matt Marquardt gone to the Columbus Blue Jackets’ camp.

Pretty much agree with everything that i have read about tonight's game.
I still think Mosher is easily the choice for backup but he is going to have to play better than he did tonight if he is going to help this team. Tonight he wasn't horrible but he had trouble controlling his rebounds and let in 2 goals he shouldn't have.
Tonight I thought Kana was great out there and possibly our best player but he had little help. Otherwise I thought Deighan played very well, Clow was better than he was against CB but still didn't look his best, Paynter was Paynter he gives you everything he has every shift but didn't really create any offense.
I actually thought Coon-Come had a pretty good second half and I really like his game. He does play a similar style to Paynters with lots of engery but he is only 17 and I think there is more offensive potential there.
I thought MacLean had some good shifts tonight. I noticed Jean was really working with him and he did get a little PP and PK time which was nice to see. He still has a long ways to develop but he worked hard and looks to have some good potential but this year will clearly be a learning year (as it should be).
And Main is quickly becoming a favorite of mine. I actually thought he was our best defenseman and loved how quickly he tried to jump in when that idot Morehouse was trying to fight Gervais. Morehouse likely didn't know in advance that Gervais was playing with a cast but I'm sure Gervais told him at the time and made it quite clear he wasn't interested but Morehouse insisted in making an ass of himself trying to go with him anyway. I was pissed that Wright or someone else didn't pump Morsehouse his next shift.
Otherwise I didn't think anyone else really looked good which is why that game was horrible.
Swit continued to look horrible and is convincing me more and more he should be traded (or released).
Locke was very disappointing and if we could add a 20 yr old forward he would likely be the player that should be moved. It's frustrating because I really feel like he could contribute as a scoring line forward but he isn't showing it.
Cliche really looked out of place against the fast Moncton team but that will be a continuous story this season.
Doyle looked like he was trying to do too much and be to fancy.
Schmidt wasn't bad but like everyone wasn't as good as he has shown.
DesRoches was the same not bad but he has played better.
Anyway it is only preseason and after a tremendous Halifax game I can handle one absolutely horrible Moncton game. I just hope that the team shows up for a lot better once our season gets rolling.

One of the worst games I've ever watched.
Nobody stood out in a good way for the Rocket.
The few veterans we had dressed show nothing (aside from Latal and Main) and the guys fighting for roster spots didn't do themselves any favours.
Our lack of depth was glaring tonight.. fans used to get on Tyler Hawes for his lack of contributions offensively as a 3rd or 4th year player.. well it's time for Matty Lachaine and Chad Locke to step up and show they actually can play in this league.
I have nothing to say about Swit.. he's brutal.. I knew it when we got him.. the rest of you are seeing it now
On the Moncton side I actually liked Morehouse's game last night.. he's greasy but he's entertaining... and he's doing his job, I hope he sticks.

The recaps and comments in this thread are pretty accurate. I rarely missed a game the last three years and was thinking about going to Summerside but I will not waste the gas money driving up to see a repeat of last nights slow boring game.
I know it's pre season and we did not sart our A team. But I expected more from those who did start.
