If this is the way it went down, it's bullshit, no need for it. Let the kid get a taste of an NHL camp. He would benefit from it and chances are the Rocket would benefit from it too. Let the kid see how things are done in the bigs, to see how big time pro players get prepared for camp and learn from it. If he sees how much work and dedication that the pro players put into camp, he could learn that and possibly pass it on to his junior teammates.
If it was playoff time or the Rocket were fighting for a playoff spot it would be understandable, but a couple of games in September, come on. Very selfish on the Rocket's part to steal something like that away from a kid at his first pro camp. I can't believe they did that.

The Rangers didn't have to send him back.

In fairness, they asked for him back. The Rangers didn't have to send him back. It was proably a situation were Savard asked "Are you going to play him or just use him in practise? beacause we really need him with the team" The Rangers were proably just going to keep him in practice and not use him for games so it's not like he missed too much.

As I asked earlier, is is common for CHL teams to ask NHL teams to release a player a bit early?

Lets put the truth on the board.
Lafleur had a great rookie camp with the Rangers. He was informed that he would not play in any of the exhibition games, and might have a couple of practices with the big team.
His return plane ticket was scheduled for this coming Monday morning. It is not unusual for GM's and agents to call NHL teams to find out how their prospects are doing.
The same is true when Midget AAA and Junior A teams call Major Junior clubs to find out about their prospects.
When the Rangers found out that the Rocket has Two games over the week-end they gave him one practice instead of two and changed his flight.
There is no Major Junior club that will dictate to an NHL club when a player returns. The same is true for Midget AAA and Junior A clubs cannot dictate to a Major Junior team when their players return.
These are the facts as they happened and we all accept them. Case Closed

I just noticed this on the Phoenix Coyotes site, regarding the rosters in their preseason game with Anaheim. Marty isn't listed on the roster or among the scratches. Does that mean he's on his way back, anyone know? We could use him... www.nhl.com/scores/htmlreports/20072008/RO010007.HTM
