I think if Tampa Bay were allowed to send him the the AHL for the season last year, they would have. It would've helped him this season with the Lightning.

fastest skater ... of the ones invited still one of the most overhyped and disappointing rookie seasons in recent memory Well as far as rookie 19 year old forward production goes, I'm sure he is doing just fine. TB are very deep on talented forwards and they have bounced him all over the lineup. He was never a guy I thought would immediately have his way at the NHL level. I understand the "nothing left in junior" for him mentality, but at the same time, he still needs to grow (mentally, physically) to be an impact guy at the NHL level. He doesn't look out of place when I have watched him, just struggling with consistency which is pretty normal. for a 3rd overall pick that many thought was going to make the NHL last year... and was a slam dunk to do so this year.... and most publications had him as a favorite for rookie of the year honours...... his first half season has been a tremendous letdown... 2 goals.... embarrassingly bad

It seems like he's been slow to start at every level he's played at. I think he'll get going once he gets used to the physical side of pro hockey. As CJD said, he's been bounced up and down... in and out of the lineup as well (Although that wouldn't be the case if he was doing better). He isn't having a horrible season. But it's the Ciampini syndrome: drafted 3rd overall means you have extremely high expectations. When you don't meet those expectations it's disappointing. I also agree with your statement about "Fastest of the skaters invited" in the skills competition. If it were up to me, the skills competition would be the perceieved best in the league at each event regardless of whether or not you were an allstar. If Paul Byron was a 4th line forward, but was an extremely fast skater, then he should be in the fastest skater competition. If Chara had the hardest shot, he should be in the hardest shot competition etc. Then we'd really see who was the best of the best.

Had they stuck him in a consistent role this year, he would be doing much better IMO. They started him slow, dabbled him on the top line now and then, but most of his season has been on 3rd/4th line. I don't see any problem bringing him along slowly honestly, although tough for him to gain confidence moving all over the lineup the way he has. He is still 7th in rookie scoring despite all that, in the mix with lots of 21-22 year olds with pro seasons/experience under their belt. I don't think he's been embarrassingly bad at all.

It seems like he's been slow to start at every level he's played at. Yeah when he came to the Q as a wonderkid, it took him a while (playoffs really) before he started to look like one of the best players on the ice. I remember early on, everyone's comments were basically that you could see he had lots of talent, but still needed time to adjust to the league. I think he is in the same boat in the NHL - the fan reaction I have seen is they love the talent and skill but he still needs some time to learn the pro game (although most seem to want him to play more consistently in bigger roles).

He's actually had lots of chances with Stamkos................ most rookies don't get that... he hasn't been able to produce enough to stay there Tampa is a team that doesn't mind giving kids big roles..... and yet Drouin has found himself an occasional healthy scratch and often relegated to lines with Paquette and Morrow etc..... because when he gets PP time and first line time... he does nothing with it Sugar coat it all you want..... it's an embarrasingly bad... but maybe humbling to his giant ego...... first half season he's 9th in rookie scoring... first one that shows up as a minus there as well (that is surprising) www.nhl.com/ice/rookies.htm?fetchKey=20152ALLSRSAll&sort=points&viewName=summary

I guess I wasn't one of the people who expected him to be much different than he has been. He didn't make the team last year and didn't look good in training camp. I knew it took some time to adjust to the Q too. I was expecting it to be an up and down year for him. He would be on pace for 40 points as a 19 year old, mostly playing 3/4 line. That's not bad (and could improve should they start giving him bigger roles in the 2nd half). It's not sugar coating, its what he has done. I guess its been a bad year based on those who expected him to tear it up, but I didn't. It would be like if Team Canada lost in the semi's and people said they were really surprised at that because they expected Groulx's coaching to lead them to a title. Would that have been surprising to you?

He could have worked on his skating!

It seems a shame at this point - Drouin getting sat out and doing 3/4 line work. Should have been returned to the Moose... He's well beyond junior hockey teaching him anything. He needs to be playing with pro players... practicing with pro coaching. I thought the same thing before as well. The ultimate solution would be to send him to the AHL. But being a selfish junior hockey fan, I never want that to be an option.

Good to see he finally broke that goal scoring tie among rookies with Draisaitl

It seems a shame at this point - Drouin getting sat out and doing 3/4 line work. Should have been returned to the Moose... Just because he didn't destroy with Tampa you think he should be in the CHL? That is the problem with Moose fans, they care more about seeing him in a Moosehead uniform, regardless if he has outgrown the Q. Moosehead fans route against these guys, just like they routed against Ehlers making the NHL. Moosehead fans think they know what is best for the player. Embarrassing!
