Just browsing thru the opening day rosters on the Q site and we have the fewest number of 18 year olds on our roster... most people would agree a championship Q team is front loaded with solid overagers and 19 year olds but they usually also have some solid 18's. Our roster is quite strange as we have 9 19's and 9 17's but just 3 18's.. could mean next season is another tough one for us unless some deals are made.
It also shows that perhaps a 16 or 17 year old could and should be used as trade bait to address this need by x-mas
As a comparison the generally regarded front runners for the divisions break down agewise as follows
Halifax: 11 19's 7 18's 2 17's
Rouyn: 8 19's 7 18's 5 17's

well seein as ur only allowed 3 20's im guessin 6 of those 19's are gone at the end of the season or maybe even some by Xmas time Next year 20's are Latal, Gervais, Lafleur i think if they all come back next year, so Locke, Lachaine, Main etc.... this will be their last year as a Rocket

bad jokes aside anybody else care to comment on the thread itself?
i know we have alot of marginal 19's that will have no trade value next year.. point is if we are to contend next season as so many feel we should.. we better get some Q vets soon that will be here next year

Either go for it this season by adding a piece or so, or make a good size deal or two for a "real" run next season. Depending on where the team stands then and how they feel they can do come playoff time.

What makes it hard to project is what is going to happen with Lessard, Latal and Lafleur with regards to NHL contracts.
For Ottawa and Phoenix to retain the rights of Lessard and Latal, they have to be signed to NHL contracts by next June. Now, neither Lessard nor Latal are particularly highly rated prospects in their respective organizations, so it's difficult to speculate if they would be signed or not. Even if they are signed, as neither is a blue chip prospects, it wouldn't be beyond the realm of possibility they would be returned to junior.
It's rare that a 20 y/o is a Euro, since a 20 y/o would occupy both the overager seat and the Euro seat, but Latal would be the type of player you would carry at 20 even as a Euro.
The Rangers have the option of signing Lafleur and playing him in the minors next season. He's an 88, like the others, but his October draft meant he was drafted a year later than Latal and Lessard. As such, the Rangers also have the option to retain his rights but not sign him until the end of his 20 y/o season.
It's different than when we were speculating about Gragnani because, other than questions about attitude, it was a pretty sure thing Buffalo would have him in their plans and have him playing pro hockey as soon as possible.
The future of Lessard, Latal and Lafleur for 08-09 is much cloudier.

ohs? "Sighs" I hate Reruns Serious.......... What? I think what they mean is that they are going with the "wait until Xmas and go from there strategy".......again How many times has this worked for them..... ZEROThis team will never be a contender if they don't have a long term plan in place for building a team. The wait and see strategy that they use year in and year out is too much of fly by the seat of your pants and too much of a knee jerk reaction. You have to decide before the start of the season what you want to accomplish for that season, you don't decide half way through it like the Rocket do every year. The good teams in the NHL, junior don't set their season goals at mid-season, they set them before the season starts and they build towards that all season not just the last couple of months. You can't prepare for a championship run with 3 months left in a season.
