A post on the newer Titan board by Titan Nation (see below) makes mention of a pending Rogers TV deal ... plus a new online provider of webcasts. Anybody know more about this ? ____________ An era in local broadcasting has come to an end. Since the beginning of the 1998-99 season, CKLE-FM has been a radio broadcaster of Acadie-Bathurst Titan road games and in the early days of the team after moving from Laval, Qué. select playoff games. According to Robert Lagacé of the Acadie Nouvelle newspaper, the Titan have decided not to renew their broadcasting contract with the radio station, instead opting to seek out new opportunities while the QMJHL enters a new broadcasting deal with Rogers & TVA Sports and while the league works on a better online model in which to carry their webcasts, which has brought on heavy amounts of criticism for the poor quality being offered for a high price compared to other services available in other sports and leagues. One of the main reasons for the decision is cost-based. According to Isabelle Morrier, the team’s Director of Operations, it cost $1,000 per game to broadcast on the French-language radio station. The costs were subsided by advertising sales, but largely three-quarters of the ads were coming from the team’s shareholder group. Morrier says that there will be other options available in the coming year, including a pilot project to broadcast 20 games on Rogers during the regular season between the three New Brunswick-based teams. Whether it’s 20 games per team or 20 games in total, that has not been revealed as of yet. There is the possibility that if the project is successful, Rogers may broadcast all games next season. As we draw closer to the season, more details will likely be revealed. When Titan Nation learns of these details, we’ll be sure to bring them to you. As for CKLE-FM, they wasted no time in replacing the Titan with 40 regular season broadcasts of Montréal Canadiens games. For more Titan news, visit www.titannation.ca

I really hope Rogers gets an HD channel like Eastlink has if they're going to broadcast games.

I have heard rumours that TSN was looking at carrying more non-NHL hockey next season (because of the reduction in games due to the Rogers NHL deal). One guy I talked to was "sure" they were going to carry "lots" of CHL games. I remain skeptical - the CHL has been a Rogers thing for the past many years (outside of Quebec), but maybe the increased NHL coverage means they won't have room for the CHL. I recall the WHL had a deal with Shaw a few years ago (maybe they still do).
I can't see the CHL being lucrative enough for TSN to get into it in a big way - I would think the AHL would draw more viewers than the CHL. And even if they did carry CHL games, I would expect it to be heavily centered on the southern Ontario OHL teams.
As a non-Rogers TV customer, the prospect of a local Rogers deal wouldn't excite me, although it might be good for the NB teams as a whole. What kind of market penetration does Rogers still have for home TV, I wonder?

I believe they extended that deal a few months back, right after the Rogers-NHL deal was announced.

OK ... here is the most recent rumour I have heard from a pretty reliable source.
Rogers has a deal to broadcast games from the three NB Q rinks this season. I'm hearing that 15 games will be broadcast from SJ and Mon, plus 20 from Bathurst. There is no actual schedule yet that I am aware of, but that may come shortly, probably when they make the announcement.
If I was to guess, I would expect that many of these games will have two of the NB teams playing against each other, to maximize interest. It doesn't make much sense to me for Bathurst to host Rimouski and put that on TV as most of the fans that can and want to watch it will be at the game. Makes more sense to broadcast a game from Bathurst involving Moncton or Saint John, to get a decent viewing audience from Moncton or Saint John. But obviously with those broadcast numbers, some of the games will have to involve other teams, and hopefully Maritime teams.
Hopefully they can also perhaps get into a broadcast sharing agreement with Eastlink with their weekly broadcast ... baby steps.

Well if the numbers are accurate, that would be 50 games total, so some of them would have to be on nights other than Friday. But where Friday is always a full night in the Q, I'm sure some of them would be Friday games.

I think it was Anthony Marcotte who tweeted something about eebcasts yesterday. It was in french so I wasn't clear on the entire message. Perhaps somebody else could add something.

It was in french so I wasn't clear on the entire message. Perhaps somebody else could add something. roughly that it will be in all markets with better quality and the live games on TV should be broadcast on the web with TV coverage (not sure if this would include rogers). Someone French could no doubt be more clear.

The teams that use cameras for in-house work will contribute to the presentations. The Q is working to present a better quality broadcast The games that are on TV will be web casted onto the internet at the same time. Announcement to come this week
