For what it's worth, John Marino is on the roster: halifaxmooseheads.ca/article/training-camp-rostersObviously the battle for dman spots 4-6 will be very interesting. Not a lot of high high end talent there. But it's pretty much anyone's 3 spots for the taking.

The way people have been freaking out about Marino, he better turn into the best defenseman in Moosehead history!

The way people have been freaking out about Marino, he better turn into the best defenseman in Moosehead history! Saying people are "freaking out" over him is a bit of an exageration. No I think he's bang on. People are tweeting Willy asking him writing on this board talking about mostly him. When really none of us have seen him play. When I read that post this morning I had to laugh because I thought he hit the nail on the head. Last year it was Meier and I remember saying he's looking to be on our 3rd line and a lot people were saying he's a euro he's going to be good and played on top lines. But he wasn't that great was he. He was good don't get me wrong but he was just an average player really. Which isn't a bad thing to say about a 17yo rookie. It just a lot of people in moose country assume player A is going to be awesome right away if they're drafted high. Yes lately that has happened here but it doesn't and won't happen every time. But this especially happens when it's an American or Euro kid. Do I hope he comes, yes. Do I think he's going to be good, yes. In saying that however if we had the same defence as last year I think he would be on the bottom pairing. He might get to play on the top 4.

Marino was our 2nd pick in the draft and the only big question mark for reporting, in an area we need skill, defense. People were freaking out about Drouin when he didn't report, and a lesser extent about Eichel. Not at all about Marino. If he shows up I expect him to be a raw, but skilled dman capable of playing on the 2nd pair on a mid pack team. He isn't going to be the difference between us contending and not contending or anything like that. But he will be an important player for the next 3 years if he does show up. thechronicleherald.ca/mooseheads/1228728-hard-to-predict-type-of-team-mooseheads-will-ice-this-qmjhl-seasonThis doesn't sound too promising. If he was expected to show up I would expect Willy to say 'Marino will likely report to camp but may leave after 48 hours to retain his NCAA eligibility.

Brett Crossley, Steve Marino and Barrett Dachyshyn — are likely already pencilled in to three of those openings, although Marino hasn’t yet confirmed whether he will be at camp. He is an American and still has options in the NCAA Who is Steve Marino?

You EXPECT him to be on our second pair when you haven't seen him play or anything. That's exactly the point I was trying to make because he was a high pick people on here expect things from him. It happens every year. And as for the freaking out over him like I said people tweet Willy and the team asking if he's coming.

I am pretty sure someone from the Mooseheads Organization were quoted as saying Marino would be a top 4 guy. He is also on the Future Watch list as well. You can't blame people for being excited about the guy.

So simply asking Willy on twitter if he knows anything about him reporting or not is 'freaking out'? LOL ok then. I can't find the article he was quoted in, but Cam Russell said himself if Marino shows up he will be able to step into the top 4 with his skill set and hockey IQ. I'm not expecting him to step in and play top 4 based on nothing. There have been several scouting reports stating that he is a highly skilled dman that can play top 4 in the Q.

People are obsessed with who is reporting. Most of these players will be CIS All-Stars. Unless there is a big talent on the way, nothing to get excited about. Standard junior hockey players, and if you get excited about the standard junior hockey players, then I'm not sure why people aren't regulars at the CIS games. Drouin was worth the chatter, this year's draft pics? Meh, seen it before.

Just people need to chill out on who isn't or is coming to camp. I'm going to assume like me, they watch these games to see future NHL stars. If that isn't the reason, then why are they not watching the best hockey in town, the CIS?

I watch the Q because it's the best hockey in town. I care who's reporting to camp because I will be watching them play live 34 times a year for the next few years and a player reporting or not will have an impact on the product i'm watching. Marino is the only draft pick that is a question mark to report that projects to be an impact player in the Q.
I can name a dozen players that were entertaining as hell to watch play and develop in the Q that never went on to the NHL, and to me that's half the appeal of the Q.
CIS hockey sucks and that's why nobody watches it. Small variance in skill level, no fighting and very little passion.
