Not looking at positions or needs, just looking at players, Gallant is an upgrade over Swit as a 20 y/o. cb Gallant will mostly be a 4th liner and Jean only uses his 4th line once in a blue moon. Not much of an upgrade on your 20 yr old spot when his ass is on the bench most of the game. If they can put MacKinley or Cliche on the top line. Gallant surely could find his way off of the 4th line. He is twice the player as either one of them. Plus he can fight. ;D

I know there are Gallant fans on here, but with all the problems the Rocket have I don't think Gallant is the answer or even part of the answer. Savard is going to have do better than Gallant when it comes to acquiring the players that the Rocket need to turn it around. That isn't a knock on Gallant or anything but I don't see this move making a big difference for the Rocket standings-wise.

i figure main drops back, gallant goes into his spot on 3rd line. he had 18 goals last year, i believe so can score and can play better then most tough guys.

You're likely right about Main moving back but I'd sooner see him up front with Morrison and Walker. He'll throw some hits and make things happen and can skate much better than Cliche. As I said earlier let Clow, Deighan and Malouin pick up the slack on the blue line. Its early in the season and and Lessard and Gervais have to step up and work with these guys. Lessard plays academically and Gervais plays with more of an edge and seems to go with the flow but together they can combine to teach the new guys a lot. I expect there will be a lot of miscues starting out but there is no way it will be any worse than what we've seen to date this season and It can only get better as they guys pick up some skills and confidence. In order for this to happen thay have to play.

If Gallant was 19 I would love this move but to be honest I don't like the idea of him taking up a 20 yr old spot. However, if Swit is gone and Main moves to defense then Gallant would be a great fit on our 3rd line with McKinely and Locke/Lachaine.

Gallant played 3rd line last year in the playoffs on a good team, would think that would be a upgrade on what you have been watching lately. I think he also may have come in not only as a tough guy but also to bring some leadership .

I'm def happy about acquiring Gallant. Payntz doesnt have to worry about doing all the tough stuff on his own.
Great move by Serje

Paynter barely sees the ice as is, with taking away the so called "pressure" of doing the fighting what else is leftg for the kid to do?
This move will help in the toughness department and Gallant can play a little bit.. but it doesn't make us much better now and I seriously doubt Serge makes a move at Christmas to upgrade on Gallant... unfortunately what I think will happen is we likely unload morrison at Christmas for a couple of players who will probably end up stifled here
I also dont think it will do muvh for attendance.. sorry Gallant will fight when needed but he isn't gonna fight every other night
It will be interesting to see how he handles his little brothers moron on skates routinbe next time the Stink Pups are in town tho

Oh and I think Main likely goes back to the point fulltime ( or close to it) now... Swit's departure is good news for Clow, Deighan and Malouin tho.. give them a chance to earn regular icetime or boost trade value

Savard is starting to think like an Islander now. Island fans will support two types of hockey teams. A winning team( which this years version is not) and a team that will resort to violence to attract fans. Doesn't hurt that Gallant is a local boy.

If Swit was being dropped now, wouldn't something have been mentioned in the press release?

If Swit was being dropped now, wouldn't something have been mentioned in the press release? Pretty sure a team can carry 4 20yrs olds until Christmas.....but only allowed to dress 3. No reason to hang onto Swit until then......give the ice time to deighan and Clow.

I know Swit hasnt been very good (and definately not a good 20 in the league), but he ~was~ an experienced defenseman. Now you lose him, and go with an even younger defense, to add a 3rd liner (at best) on a team where Jean doesnt play his bench. It seems like your already last place team just lost a bit more. Do you think, 9 games in, that the rocket are heading towards a selling mode?
