CHARLOTTETOWN, PEI, October 10, 2007– The P.E.I Rocket Hockey Club of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League has called up 17 year-old forward Jeremiah Coon-Come from his midget AAA team Amos, in the Quebec Midget AAA Hockey League. A native of Mistissini, QC, Coon-Come, seventh round draft pick for the Rocket last year, will be joining the team for their three games in three nights in the province of Quebec.
The Rocket play Gatineau on Friday, October 12th, Shawinigan on Saturday, October 13th, and Victoriaville on Sunday, October 14th.

It's good as long as they give him a fair shot and not keep him in the stands or on the bench like Desroches, Wright and Maclean. Not sure what kind of message it sends to these guys with them acquiring Gallant and bringing up Coon-Come. Coon-Come might be joining them just for the road trip, but why not give the kids that are already on the team a good long look before calling up another rookie. If the Rocket feel they are not ready for the Q right now, why not send them down and give them some ice time instead of having them sit around getting pushed further and further down on the depth chart. I'm not saying that Coon-Come doesn't deserve the chance but there are other players on the roster that need the ice time also.

IMO, I feel that the Rocket may be thinking exactly why the cut Coon-Come......
This 3 game stint could be what Coon-Come needs to prove to the brass that he can play in this league.
If he impresses, you may see him either stick around or come back for the remaining of the season at the Christmas deadline and perhaps a player like Schmidt will be gone.
IMO, Schmidt is on his way out.............no doubt.

I'd say Coon-Come plays 1-2 games this weekend and stays up in Quebec... unless he puts up a few points and puts them in a position they have to take him back to PEI. I'm with Score... if Coon-Come joins them, like Schmidt is out.

Really glad to hear that Coon-Come has been called up as I thought he should have been with this team all along. The mistake was keeping Schmidt if he wasn't going to get regular ice time. But apparently that mistake has been corrected.
Coon-Come really reminds me of a younger more skilled version of Paynter as he gives it everything he has every shift. And I think he has the skill to become a solid 3rd line player in the future.
Anyway best of Luck to Coon-Come and the boys on this Quebec trip and looking forward to seeing him hopefully stay with the team when the return to PEI next week.

Well it certainly saves them a plane flight to check him out while in Quebec...pretty much pick him up at the side of the road and go.
I realize that some of the other players on this team haven't gotten a long look during game action, but they've been givena long look in terms of practices and how they work away from the game itself, which can be just as much of a factor when it comes to seeing the ice.
I still believe, like the majority of us, the coach needs to expand his use of the bench.
Best of luck to Cone-Come....hope he proves the brass wrong and scores a couple of goals.

I think this is just picking the kid up while the team is in Quebec since he's already there and Locke won't be making the trek due to injury. I am sure the kid will dress for 1 maybe 2 games but I'd bet he sees no more than 2-3 shifts and stays put... perhaps he may be here fulltime after Christmas but this callup is just one of convenience IMO
I imagine Wright will likely stay home (save cash for Serge) as I think with Gallant's addition his Q time for this year is over.

Gallant did not make the road trip I don't think Strange considering the Rocket stated multiple times that he would make the trip. Do you have a source?

I've heard at a local radio (in abitibi where Coon-Come plays MAAA) in september, that Coon-Come cut himself from the rocket camp. He said that he didn't want to play just a few minutes a game in PEI.
Does Yannick Jean promise him a good amont of icetime this weekend? I will be very surprise if he play in the Rocket uniform for the remainder of the season.

Not suggesting there isnt some truth to your rumour danrem (welcome to the board btw) but in all honesty Jean doesn't have to promise him anything.. he is getting a call of convenience here because the team has room due to injury and the kid is already in Quebec... they'll give him a token look.. but don't expect much ice.. if he keeps playing well and changes are made at xmas that open a spot we will see him then.. if not next year is his time to shine

He's been having some good shifts tonight. Yes, he has seen a fair bit of shifts, lots in the 3rd period. Usually on with Mo.
