We can' have too many assets if were still buying. The return we should have looked for was 19's for this year, not drafts.

The current core is the future. The only core players being lost are overagers Farrell & Darcy. All the rest are back. Why waste a top 16 year old on bringing in players to try to win from the bottom this season when that 16 year old seems like he'll be an impact 17 year old next season in his NHL draft year. It wouldn't be the first time a 17 year old played a top 6 role on a Championship team. If this time next year CB is playing like a contender, when a huge chunk of their core are in their 19 year old season, and they're looking for a piece to put them over the top then I'd understand the argument in trading a 16 year old for a significant piece. But right now I don't get it at all & it would seem like an impatient panic move. Yes, that is my feeling as well. At the draft the prices will be lower anyway. Time and experience will turn us into contenders. A big reason for my question to you is that I feel the impression you leave on someone like a Svechnikov can completely change the way this team is viewed. If he comes here and plays on sub par teams for 2 years and struggles in his first pro seasons, it can come back to haunt us. But if we surround him with talent and make an effort to put a championship team around him, it could benefit us a great deal in terms of how other agents view us after the past few years. Things like that matter a lot in the hockey world when it comes to recruiting future players.

The suggestion of Grégoire (an expiring asset) in a trade for Dubois is in this thread... Should have clarified as suggested by anyone who has seen Dubois play regularly this year. If I go on the Halifax board and say Ehlers is worth a 3rd round pick it doesnt mean all fans think that's a suggested return. And the trade also included a #1 goaltender that you conveniently left out of that deal, but continue to fight your battle I guess. I didn't conveniently leave it out, it says Cadorette OR Gregoire. Two different trade suggestions.

The team on the ice is proving that getting and keeping the picks was a pretty good move. Hard to believe that just 1 19yr old would improve us to say a top 5 ranking. Sometimes to gamble on players returning and lose. If we traded Hache for that solid 19yr old and Hache returns then we're critical for a different reason. Can't win em all. But I understand what you're saying in terms of more is always better. I just think that sometimes having too many picks results in some lost value over time.

Eaglefan , you mentioned the buying will lead to shit if we buy.We are in a position where it would not be bad to add a few guys. We have 4 1st rounders and tons of decent prospects. We will be adding for this year and next. This is not the 09-10 season where we added some 1/2 season rentals and gave up practically all of our valuable picks and traded ( / people moving on ) the remaining good guys on the roster. We could buy for 1 year + a half and not break the bank.
EFlipping high picks for talented overagers like Brunelle and Rose when the team was shit did not help the future either. Which at the time I was ok with because the team was practically a Jr.A team.
Being at the bottom of the standings is concerning because I do not see this team getting out of the 1st rd if we play anyone of the teams int he top 3 but I am confident they will get out of the basement if they fix a few of their problems.

That's what I said. Dubois + Lalonde for Cadorette OR Grégoire I would not trade Dubois for anyone. You have to build your team thru the draft. Add complimentary players via trade. Be patient. I would trade him for Fitzpaterick

IMO, this the yearthat we have to make a decision on what direction this team is taking. This is the year that we have the glut of picks, we have to trade them or use them.If it is true that Baie-Comeau is selling, they have some interesting assets. So does Drummondille and Bathurst, who are almost certain to be sellers. Then there is the issues of the American goaltender who was here for a look plus the status of O'Leary that may factor into the process. Should be an interesting month or so.
