everyone is entitled to their opinion. I personally do not trust Bell for one second when he's out there. Way too much risk with very little reward. Like I said, someone needs to teach him how to play defence baca use he has no clue. 1st in goals & 4th in points by U18 defenseman, 3rd in goals & 19th in points among all defenseman... that's the reward.

Those are good numbers and I like his skills but he is a huge defensive liability.I think the coaches need to monitor him closely and try to put him in situations where he will succeed.Quick thought: You are in the last 5 minutes of the game with a one goal lead, why would you put Bell on the ice in these situations? Number 1: You are putting the team at a defensive liability late in the game.Number 2: You put bell in a situation where he might fail personally and might cost the team.Simple solution: Don't put him in those situations.

I think we should all take a moment to appreciate Jacob Smith. He works his ass off out there and looks like he just has fun playing hockey. He's not the most gifted player, but has some nice hands and somehow has decent speed. For a bottom 6er he gets the job done. I really wish he was 18 or 17 because i'm not so sure I would use a 20 year old spot on him but i'd love to have him back. Agreed, he works his hole off every shift. He has the work ethic of Kyle Farrell but unfortunately the offensive skill of Timothe Simard. I highly doubt he will be back next season as a 20yr old but you never know with Dumont.

Those are great numbers BUT, I would rather see him finish the year with 15-20 points and be a +20. At least that shows that when he's out there he's not costing us. I know everyone is gonna jump all over the +20 because we have the worst GAA in the league but I truly believe that if we were a solid defensive team his +/- would still be terrible because he is horrible defensively.

Interesting. I don't think it's good for coaches to call out players in the press. Constructive criticism needs to be done quietly in person. Bell was awesome on the power play in Saint John on the 31st. But, while it's just one game, it seemed that Bell and the other defencemen were having trouble with the Sea Dogs faster forwards, especially getting beat wide on the rush. Having said that, Bell seems to have a bright future. Alexandre Gosselin had a great game, played his man and not the puck. We need one more D like him and it will make a big difference in our wins, Bel, Well we need to do something with him he seems like he is not interested in playing hockey @ least not tonight. I think he needs to sit out a few games so he can watch Gosselin play and get some desire to play, he seemed to be in slow motion tonight. Not sure, he may be another Darcy? Sullivan is the number one goalie for this team and with more experience will be a great goalie i think he proved that tonight. He could use another good DF man. I believe we should look at trading Bell and MacIntyre and trow in Brassard to get another good older Def-man. Time to lead and win games!! Bell is currently a good offensive defenceman and will be a star. He will be amazing to watch at 19. A good PP quarterback should be a piece of the puzzle to every team and he will be that piece/already is. Unlike Darcy while here Bell is actually putting up points and showing he cares. I have to agree with you though. His defensive game last night was crap. More crap than usual actually. However , Bell is not one of those guys who is going to be a strong physical dman but one would expect that as long as he does not regress will not make as many mistakes in the future.

Seeing as he doesn't get +'s on the PP and doesn't play the PK where you don't get -'s for goals against, I'd say he's probably close to even when it's all said n done.

+ - is a flawed stat because of that very reason.

+ - is a flawed stat because of that very reason. That's why the discussion can't end with stats, you can make them say whatever you want. Bell is usually outside the top 4 5on5 but lives for the PP where he creates most of his offense, seeing as there isn't much depth scoring on the Eagles it should come as no surprise that Bell's +/- isn't off the charts. If he was in Leveilles role, I might be concerned.
