Schmidt was amazing and they wanted to keep him on until Christmas but weren't going to play him. So he said he was leaving and just left. He wasn't going to put up with that crap.
I'm going to miss him lots. He ws amazing.

i thought he was one the best preseason players for sure. when the regular season started we never saw him!
dont know but it seemed to me there was more going on than on ice performance.....because he was never on the ice. he sure didnt get the ice time our friend cliche got. he should be the one that is gone..
beats me.....?

He was a huge disappointment when he did see the ice... cmorej syndrome. That's the reason he didn't see hardly any ice.

We have too many young players who are just as good or better then Schmidt on this team that need the ice time to develop. Having mediocre 19 year olds chewing up ice time is not what a team in our situation needs.
That's why he wasn't in the plans.

Not sure what happened with Schmidt as he did have a good camp. But I remember someone posting here earlier where the same thing happened with another team, great camp but disappeared once the regular season started. Like I said not sure what happened but if he could play during the regular season like he does in the pre-season, he could be a help to a team.
As far as being in the Rocket plans, perhaps the Rocket are hanging onto him until the trading period to see if they can get anything in return or they are waiting to see what the team is going to look like at that time. If a team is going to be making changes, why start getting rid of players now instead of waiting a month or so to see how the trade period unfolds.

There is also the aspect of league rules where I don't believe that the Rocket can release a player under 20 between Sept & Dec without incurring a penalty (if they can at all). I believe this rule is in support of each player's education. Which meant that the Rocket had to drag Schmidt along until he finally quit which can't be good not only for the player but also for the dressing room. I suspect Schmidt was hoping things might be different under Chouinard which is why he stuck around a little longer but unfortunatley for him it isn't. I honestly feel bad for Schmidt, in preseason he played hard and did everything he could to make this team and earned a spot. Unfortunately for him he wasn't given an opportunity on the top lines and if the Rocket aren't a contending team it didn't make sense to have him buried on the 3rd & 4th line ahead of other players. But that is not Schmidt's fault that is Jean's coaching mistake. Having said that I wish Schmidt the best and suspect that he will dominate with whatever Jr A team he joins. Kid appears to have good offensive skills maybe just a little slow to be a top line player in the Q.

Things aren't looking that great for Paynter right now either. I bet hes thinking hard about whether he wants to stay with the Rocket much longer. My guess is that he will wait till Jan and then decide what to do. I also think they will give away Cliche for next to nothing
Its probable that the team will sell off at Christmas. My guess is that Morrison will ne gone for sure, and probably walker, and theres also a good chance Lafleur will be gone too. I have heard some mention of Lessard too, but I doubt that hes going anywhere. I honestly don't know how much we would get for him. I don't expect any rookies to be traded unless they request it and I expect to see us getting quality 18 year olds in return.
After Christmas I expect our lineup to look like this
Kana Doyle Latal new guy LaChaine new guy McKinley Coon Come Gallant MacLean Locke new guy DesRoches Paynter??
Lessard Gervais Southorn Main Deighan Malouin ?? Clow?? Maybe new guy for one of the ??
Gelinas New Guy
No hard facts behind this. Just speculating

Don't be too sure of that.. hope he does but wouldn't blame him if he goes back to tier 2

I'm not sure what is going to take place with Paynter this season. I would like to see him remain in a Rocket uniform because of his enthusiasm and also many times he was the only player on the ice who was working his ass off instead of playing like he was going through the motions like other Rocket players. But if the Rocket are going to be rebuilding and are looking at playing the rest of this season with next year in mind, then he might be in tough to get his share of ice time this season because I can't see him being back as an overage player next season. Like Bois said, Junior A might be his best option unless some team in the Q has a place for a 19 yr old, hard working 4th liner, but I don't think the phone will be ringing off the hook with inquiries about him from other teams.
