I watch this Moose team and bite my lip. The puck in our own end is scary, but i have a lot of hope for next year as the kids mature and hopefully we gain high picks and players through trades to make a competitive team next year. Is it just me or does Crossley(sp) annoy anyone else or just me? I know his story and I see his play I kinda feel like its 2015 answer to Daniel Smith. Maybe I am wrong but for a first round pick he seems horrible. I don't know about Crossley. He had a good few weeks at Christmas last year, and I was really hoping to see him step up a bit this year but it hasn't seemed to happen yet. Crossley was pick #21, so he was an early second round pick, not a first rounder. And I don't think he's a Daniel Smith, because at least Crossley is a very good skater, and is a pretty decent penalty killer. Smith was just bad at everything if I recall. I think it's a bit too early to give up on him, but I wouldn't bank on him ever being a top-6 guy in the league.

Few thoughts of tonight's game. 1. Why does Dom incest on trying to put the Moynihan's together? Connor looks like he has improved but he is no where's near the skill set of his brother and I fact is holding him back. 2. This kind of goes with number one. I think they should switch Somppi and Danny. Fortier has improved so much over the summer that he looks like the best moose player right now. Every part of his game is better. I think him and Danny should be together to maybe give them more chances. 3. Putintsev should be on one of the top 2 lines yet. He seems very overwhelmed and maybe should be put into a 3rd line defensive bump and grind roll for a few games just to get use to how strong this league can be. I know he scored a bunch of goals last year and that type of player you want to give him offensive chances, but he seems scared at times. 4. How the hell does Fitzgerald get 2nd star? They lose 4-1 he got the goal in the 1st and ended a minus 2. Now Moncton had 44 shots and owned the play most of the game. People here are going to hate this part but Connor was the best player on the ice and set up 2 goals and seem to create scoring chances every time he touched the puck. He should have been 2nd star of that game. Brassard met the Moose star quota and earned it. The only reason it was some what close was because of him. He stopped 40 shots, and their were very high Quality ones too.

He stopped 40 shots, and their were very high Quality ones too. My humble opinions, as you pretty much took every word out of my mouth. 1. I consider Connor a place holder for Meier. He'll be in that spot when he returns. But for right now, I guess line balancing? The 3rd line of Shewfelt - Crossley - Durandeau are all much quicker than Connor. Maybe Dom feels he wouldn't be as effective on that line. 2. Also kind of goes with #1. Since Connor is a place holder, It'll probably be Meier - D. Moynihan - Putinisev, which means that Somppi and Fortier should be together now to develop chemistry if they're going to be together moving forward. 3. You're pretty much bang on IMO. He's a scorer and I guess Dom wants to put him in a position to succeed. He probably isn't going to get as many chances playing on the 3rd line. And who would jump up in his place? Durandeau is probably on the 3rd line for that exact reason. And Shewfelt... that kid is fun to watch and brings excitement almost every game.. but man he can't finish at all. He probably wouldn't be a good fit on a scoring line either. 4. Again, you're absolutely right. Garland was all over the ice last night and deserved at least 2nd star (I would've made him first star, as he was the best player out ther by a country mile, and Wierder stood there and got two goals). Brassard absolutely deserved a star. He kept the Moose in the game all night. Our "local media" have been good at picking stars, but they goofed last night IMO. It was an entertaining game. The Moose are going to have break downs and it's going to cost them a lot of games. They had one of those break downs last night. Hopefully they'll learn as they go.

He should have been in Midget last year and this year is no better. I think the local Cole Harbour kid factor played here. Whatever it is, he's my whipping boy this year. Lousy thing is, his younger bro goes/went to my kid's school, so I can't rant about him at home.

I don't know, shouldn't we wait until a player has been in the league for at least his 3rd season before he becomes the whipping boy ala Ciampini, Lomanno, Daniel Smith?
As far as Crossley goes it's not like he is ever going to be a huge scorer in the Q but he will be the guy at 19 that is sent out to kill penalties/shadow and not bitch about it. He isn't taking away ice time from our other young players either. Yeah, he was a relatively high pick but he is still only 17 in a league that is dominated by 19 and 20 year olds for the most part.

Ryan Falkenham had a similar start to his career with Halifax. He came on at 16 years old and started killing penalties and being put out there in key situations right away. He didn't score many in his 17 year old season, but his defense definitely helped in the Memorial Cup run. Crossley is almost a mirror image of that situation, except his play won't be noticed as much in a season where the Moose aren't doing anything. It's almost like Ciampini all over again. If Crossley was drafted in the 5th round no one would say anything. But because he was drafted early 2nd round, he has expectations on him (by fans) that Falkenham simply didn't face. I don't agree with it, but I can see why some fans would have higher expectations.
