I listened to most of the game on the Piques' feed, audio only.

The play-by-play guy was funny.....or not, depending on your perspective...

Here's some of what he said, translated from French:


"People at the game here in Charlottetown are kind of.....um....."relaxed" - they don't get too excited about the game, it seems...very 'laid back', they sit there quietly, not like our fans at all......"

"......this mascot they have is named 'Tomahawk' - he's....um....how to say this.....OK, he's the ugliest mascot I've ever seen, thank you very much....besides, what does 'Tomahawk' have to do with the Rocket?..."

...and then, the clincher..

"...they're going to start the shootout, but the guy resurfacing the ice is not finished yet.....and he's taking his time.....now Paul Byron, the first shooter, is waiting for the Zamboni guy to get his rig off the ice....and now they have to close the door at that end....they haven't closed it yet......no one seems to be in a great hurry to do anything around here..."


I must say that in Hull, at the Piques' games, they have a mascot named "Hully", who looks like the A&W Root Bear....now what does THAT have to do with the Olympiques?

Still, the guy was a hoot for someone like me, who comes from one place but now lives in the other.

Fans were into the game once the Rocket scored and the refs made a bad call.... they were quiet starting out tho

but by the end of the game we had a legitimate lets Go Rocket cheer clearly audible.... and Conehead wasn't even there

Well, I wasn't at the game, but it did sound much noisier than usual on the feed, and the fans were certainly into it at Thursday' game.

Just reporting what I heard on an out-of-town feed.

No one said "terrible fans", either here or on the broadcast......the commentators just found that it seems quiet here, compared to what they're used to, and I can understand that.

I thought an outsider's views about the Zamboni guy taking his time and the mascot being odd were funny, but maybe not......

It's just in fun, no harm meant.

A large majority of your posts contain references to Islanders and Island hockey fans in a less than pleasant light

You're obviously entitled to your opinion, however it would be a refreshing change if you didn't continuosly hammer it at us all the time

p.s. how was the football game? a real hockey fan who was so pleased with the Thursday performance and who knows the team is gone on the road for 2 weeks after today probably would have made it to the rink
