boyan! i am curious, why would you think lafleur would get the start? Against Drummondville....the worst team in the league.....is there a better time to start a goalie that obviously needs some kind of confidence boost? Probably gets the start against Val d'Or. Could be they want Gelinas against the Huskies and wanted him fresh. Anyway, not disagreeing, but that might be the logic.

The way Gallant and his line is playing tonight he could be tied with Mo for most goals in a game by the end of the game.

Liked what I saw from most of the new aquisitions tonight. Casavant is going to be a force in a season or two. Quaile was steady, as was Garnier. Didn't see alot of Neiderer, and Gomes was exactly what everyone said, solid, but not really an impact guy. Really looking forward to seeing Tousignant in a Rocket jersey in a week or so.

Looking at the box score, this one seemed close. They out shot you guys. The dangerous shots were something like 20-18. Was it really that crazy?

With the score being 4-1 at the mid point of the 2nd period, not sure I would consider it close. If going by the box score, the Rocket outshot them 2 out of the 3 periods with the 3rd period being the only period that Drummondville outshot them. It's not unusual to see the Rocket outshot in the 3rd period because when they have the lead going into the 3rd, they are usually playing more defensively where they are in their own end alot of the time.

Really really like the additions to this team.
I thought Quaile looked great on the top pairing with Southorn. He skates very well and smooth with the puck. That goal of his was a sweat backhand move. This should be a great pair for us this season and next.
Garnier also looked good and played as advertised. He is a very defensive physical defenseman who also skates well. Him and Main could really be a shut down pair.
As for other defensemen, Malouin had another really solid game and looked great. He got regular ice time last night and his confidence appears to be high which really makes a difference. I know I sound like his number 1 fan but I really do think we are seeing the starting signs of him turning into a solid defenseman for us. Keep it up Malouin.
As for Gomes he pretty much played as I was expecting. Nothing against the kid as he was alright but he got beat more than a few times, wasn't overly physical and wasn't overly great with the puck. Of course this was only 1 game and I think he is good enough to be a 5/6 guy in this league.
But what I don't like is that for a team focussing on developing on the future Gomes playing meant Neiderer (who is more than capable) barely played. At most only about 6 or 7 shifts all game.
Of course Chouinard is still feeling guys out and if all they are doing is easing Neiderer in his transition of teams. But I continue to stress my issue is that the Rocket are much better off long term focussing on developing and providing ice time to Malouin & Neiderer over Gomes. Nothing against Gomes just Malouin & Neiderer are good enough to play now and have a much better upside for the next 2 - 3 years.
Casavant has me really excited about his future. He is a big kid who is strong on the puck and appears to have very good puck skills. And his skating didn't appear to be as bad as I was worried about. Obviously as a 200 lb 16 yr old it was average at best but so was Walker and others at that age it didn't appear to hinder Casavant at all. I also really liked the way Chouinard managed him. Casavant played on the wing (which he seems well suited for) with Walker and Lachaine/CoonCome. Overall mins were 3rd line range but they were solid mins with skilled players which is what a skilled rookie needs. This is the way better approach than simply platooning in a rookie and planting him on the top line, then if he doesn't score in the first game sitting him the press box like what Jean would do. Anyway can't wait to see more of Casavant in person as I really like the first impression I got tonight.
As for other players our 3rd line was dominant last night although I though they started to get a little to fancy in the 2nd/3rd and weren't quite as effective.
Great for Gallant to score his first career hatrick and he seems to really be enjoying his final season in the Q.
Locke played very well at centre (where he belongs) and really makes things happen on that line.
MacLean played tremendous. He was very good down low working the boards and always involved in the play. He looked very good with the added mins and appears to be developing well.
Finally Walker was also tremendous out there. Despite the fact that he didn't get any points he was a workhorse out there appeared to be a step above everyone else and really looked like a leader the way he was talking to Cavasant and others during stoppages. Looks like has taken this role on and certainly looked like a player ready to play pro next season. Keep it up Geoff.
Anyway only one game against the weakest team in the league but I really like the new additions and I think our defense will be alright. Obviously we have taken a big hit offensively but Tousignant will help our top line and the other two looked good.
The Rocket may not be as skilled as they were a week ago but in no way did they give up on the season.
Finally just wanted to say CONGRATS to Morrison for scoring the game winner in RN last night. Nice to see he is already making significant contributions.

Against Drummondville....the worst team in the league.....is there a better time to start a goalie that obviously needs some kind of confidence boost? Look at it this way..... you guys will battle with Bathurst and Moncton for the last playoff spot..... so against Drummondville, those are two points you need to pick up.... so you start Gelinas if he is your #1. Is there a better chance Lafleur gets his confidence back against a team like Drummondville? Sure. But there's also a better chance Drummondville wins, if he plays. For the teams at the top.... they'll usually start their backups vs the weaker teams.... but for the teams in the lower half, it tends to work in reverse in the 2nd half.

i agree. this is not the time to try to get lafleur's confidence back, it is time to win. he had lots of chances to show he is back to where he was and blew it. gelinas has earned the #1 starters job, and should be there to stay from here on in.
