Much of the hype (such as it is) for next year will be based on the 1st round pick we are going to add (somewhere between #1 and 3 overall), as well as first euro pick (#2 overall) ... thought it might be worthwhile to look back at past drafts and get a feel for what we can reasonably expect in terms of impact from these players in 2017/18.
First for the 1st pick in the Q draft ... I looked at the top three picks for each of the past five drafts, to see what they did in their rookie years. Out of the 15 players, one, Maxime Comtois drafted #3 overall in 2015 managed a 60 point season as a rookie. His 26 goals that year also are the most of any player in the sample. No other player scored more than 18 goals as a rookie. The average number of points of these players was 37, the median was a 33 point performance ... so it appears we should keep our expectations in check with regards to what production we are going to get next year from this player.
As for the #2 overall euro pick, the last four years have yielded 3 defensemen of moderate impact, and a forward who did not report. However, if we go back 5, 6 and 7 years, each draft landed an immediate impact forward in the #2 spot (Draisaitl, Grigorenko, and Yakupov).

The good news for the Cats is that it's a particularly strong draft, with a superstar at the top and potential stars for the #2-3-4 picks. The key for the Cats is also what they do with picks #2 to #12, they need to add talent that will play in Moncton and contribute, or at least can be good trade chips. Need to stop gambling on low percentage guys to report with good picks. In terms of the Euro draft, it helps that Moncton has deep pockets and pretty good contacts. Often early busts are to small markets who may not have the scouting budgets or contacts. that being said, they need AT LEAST a 17 year old with upside for a top line forward or top pair d-man with this pick. It's great to have those picks, but you also have to make them count!

Not a big surprise. They were probably canned but put this spin on it.

Not a big surprise. They were probably canned but put this spin on it. It seems like King straight up said the Wildcats fired him. Maybe the Cats bring in a French speaking Assistant coach.

Aaron Kennedy Retweeted Francois Le Blanc
"I respect their decision to go another direction," said Erin King. That suggests he was fired, no?

Not a big surprise. They were probably canned but put this spin on it. Munroe probably not ... he did pretty good with two rookies. Unless he takes the fall for Bouchard. Is Damphousse now free with the Commadoes moving to Edmundston ?

Is Damphousse now free with the Commadoes moving to Edmundston ? Damphousse would be ideal as goalie coach, don't see how they can find better for a CHL team. Timing seems perfect.

We can definitely expect big things from our top line next year. Julien Tessier stays as our #1 centre. His linemates could very well be Alexis Lafreniere or Samuel Poulin, along with our top Euro pick.
If Moncton ends up 3rd overall, you have a spot open on the first line. I would put G Blackmore on the right side with our top Euro pick on the left.

I expect the Cats to also add an overage forward, I heard they are getting two OA d-men via futures already. The rest of the top 6 will likely be the 1st round Q pick and 1st Euro pick plus McKenna.

the Wildcats 2nd 1st round pick falls right around where top-ranked goaltender Tommy Da Silva is ranked, I wonder if they would consider taking him there?
I'm not really sold on Timej as a Q goaltender, and MacDonald I find a bit inconsistent.
Wilcats have a lot of needs to fill, so it's likely they'll just go best player available by pick, tho from everything I've heard they seem to want to take shortcuts with the rebuild, making me wonder if they're more prone to go for 2000's instead of 2001 born players. Jason Horvath is a 1st year midget from Ontario who moved over to play for Gatineau, and I wouldn't be shocked if the Wildcats were in on him, going for a guy who's a year older than the rest of the pack.

I'd be more OK with a defenseman with the 2nd first rounder. Sean Larochelle or Noah Laaouan come to mind.
