Here’s what you fail to believe. They have NO defense. You can’t build around jake and Morgan and expect you’re goalie to bail you out every night. The offense won’t always be there like you believe. This team is at least two top 4 d/ one year away from even thinking about a cup final. Maybe you forgot we picked up John tavaras! Our defense is more than adequate. Very underrated. Lollll you just gave up 6 goals to Chicago. JT is a great player but be realistic, you are not going anywhere with you’re current roster. Most leaf fans realize that, then there’s you.

The last 3 SC winners had as much an unproven D but they learned to play a system that supported the offense and the forwards all helped them. It needs to develop. And maybe they acquire someone. It's about balance and mostly speed and transition now but it's way better to watch.
Look though at the last 3 cup winners. Pittsburgh did it with Hainsey & Dumolin and they won without Letang one year. And Washington added Kempny to their top pair (with Carlson) to win last year with old slow Orpik alongside Christian Djoos.
For the Leafs it's one of a few things they need to learn to play the right way to improve. Its only the regular season. When the playoffs come we can talk about them getting over the playoff mountain of winning 1 round before thinking much more.

He's not actually a Leafs fan he's been trolling for a while now with sarcastic posts like these. Sparks looked baddd last night. Gardiner and Dermott had some rough moments too with a couple of unforced errors when they had complete control of the puck. Yeah it's no secret that our defense is our Achilles heel. Still early hopefully they can clean it up a bit better and the team continues to score. Scary that you can pot 6 and it still might be curtains lol.

Another game where they potted 7. Matthews and Tavares off to a surreal start. Love the Kapanen addition to the Matthews - Marleau line. Marner and Riley also quietly racking up the pts in the shadows.
It's been a pretty wide open October so far league wide. Should tighten up a bit in the next month or so.

Leafs will trade for Defence eventually this year...Kadri would bring a decent return. I don’t think Kadri will be the guy squeezed out.. he’s on a very team friendly contract, plays down the middle and unfortunately as much as I love Nylander, he’s likely the guy to get moved. I’d love to see him stay but I think with his reported ask and the fact Marner and Matthews are not getting any cheaper, the Leafs are better off to keep the guy that’s on the team friendly deal. Either way they’ll be making a hole somewhere to fill one on the back end and they’re likely better equipped to do it on the wings then down the middle of the ice too. Nylander is a treat to watch, one hell of a player but I think he just prices himself out of the Leafs future (to no fault of his own, the Tavares deal did that).

They're likely only 2 weeks out from starting to listen to offers on Nylander if he doesn't move at all from the $8+aav asking price. The CBA benefits the Leafs 100% in this situation as the longer they take to sign him the more they take the upfront cap hit and lessen every other year which is to their favor as a team looking way more to the 3 years after the season for cap space vs right now when they have it. The only trump card Nylander can pull is playing in Europe for less money and risking injury. They're basically privately and now publicly telling him he needs to decide whether he wants to make $6-$6.5 and be a part of what they're building or go play somewhere on a rebuilding team and be "the guy" earning $8 million per but maybe being 3-5 years away from being a playoff team. Until the goals stop going in for them all he's doing is hurting himself by not moving from his asking price. I'd be surprised if there were many GM's stepping up to both pay Toronto's asking price and pay him more then a Pastrnak long term.

Leafs will trade for Defence eventually this year...Kadri would bring a decent return. Kadri's going nowhere with that contract. His deal and his production help give them the insane depth that other teams are having a tough time dealing with right now. Someone like Kronwall at the deadline is the kind of D they'll go after I think.

When you score 7 goals a game you don’t need big name dmen. The 92 goal record is in serious jeopardy the way Mathews is playing

Will he take a cut to save the team? If not it’s gonna be biggggg money. No way dubas moves on Nylanders price.

A solid 4-1 win against the Kings last night. The team as a whole looked a lot more structured I thought. Sparks looked a little jittery at first but settled in and played solid.
A rough night for Drew Doughty.
Matthews with another 2 point night and joins the likes of Gretzky , Bossy and Lemieux as he hits 7 consecutive games with multi point efforts to start a season. 10 goals 6 assists for 16 pts in 7 games . Just wow.
Kapanen with another huge game on the top line also with 2 goals. Hyman had a monster game. Tenaciousness on the pk and forecheck and undressed Doughty to set up a sexy passing play from Tavares to Marner for the goal.
On to the Pens Thursday.
