Grametbauer has been released. What a saga. Ugh. Management had a fantastic draft (very optimistic) but the handling of assets has been very questionable and a bit worrisome. Wasting a Top 15 Euro pick and then this. Leclerc cost us draft picks so we know 20 year old goalies have some value. The whole wasting a Euro pick is open to opinion. 1. We have not had great success getting high end Euros ... nothing like Halifax has done. 2. In the Q, Dmen don't usually become impact players until their 19 yo season ... with certain exceptions of course that are destined to play in the NHL. 3. Dumping LeCoultre after 2 seasons to gamble at the draft shows a lack of loyalty and that will probably turn off the Import agents. I think the thought was that we know what we get with LeCoultre and they have higher expectations for him, while you never know for sure what you'll get from the draft ... LeCoultre was a 37th pick. Then there is the whole adaption period for imports. I'm not a big fan of using a Euro pick on a Dman as the adaption is even more difficult, and if we dumped LeCoultre then we'd have to replace him somehow. As disappointing as he has been, he is better than other options we have. However, I would have preferred to gamble and use the 15th overall pick ... but I understand the thought process on why we didn't. I think that thought process makes sense if we are trying to contend, but we aren't, and we will probably be trying to contend next year or the year after, and that 15th overall Euro would fit nicely into that scheme. On Grametbaeur ... not sure he has any value in a trade today if he is still hurt or trying to play hurt.

That draft class had two extremes, they're either in the NHL, or they're playing JR. A. This seems to be a trend across the country as well because the O and W don't have a massive depth of overagers either. This is a big part of the problem this year, what's left of the 1998's is an incredibly shallow pool of talent, and all the best players are on teams that don't have much interest in moving them.

The Remparts have Huntley Gagne and Dunn, they were shopping them all summer.

Keeping mediocre vets doesn't make it better.

Keeping mediocre vets doesn't make it better. Totally agree, Lecoultre makes a few good offensive plays once in a while, but is horrible in his own end and it is not like our defense would have suffered a great deal had we traded him. This team is not contending for a title this year anyway, so I do not see the point keeping him and passing on a high euro pick, just another in line with all the dumb things this team has done the past 5 years or so.

Keeping mediocre vets doesn't make it better. I agree ... LeCoultre was not great last year ... often frustrating to watch. But the team played a very different style of hockey vs Rimouski in the playoffs and the D was very good, compared to what we saw in the regular season. I'm not sure why Rumble let them get away with the style they were playing in the regular season as we all saw how good they could be with everybody sticking to the system. I think many of our problems last year were related to Coaching.

Regardless. Time to look forward to the New Season starting Thursday.
Has anyone heard any updates on the injuries and if the injured players will be ready to roll Thursday Night?

Pelletier still needs at least another week. Should be good to go for the home opener. Hudson has a 2 game suspension. He'll be back for the home opener. Not too sure on the status of Le Coultre and MacDonald.

Comes as a bit of a surprise that Cyr and McKenna now have to split their "A" despite both having one to themselves last year and being in the running for the "C" this year. I wonder why they didn't just keep theirs and Pelletier and Hudson split the third "A". Happy for Aspirot though, kids an absolute workhorse.
