I heard some fans talking last night. Saying that it doesn't feel like home yet to the Wildcats. Saying that the team has no chemistry. It doesn't matter if you're playing on a pond, the Moncton Coliseum, an NHL arena. Fundamentals are fundamentals. Their defensive coverage is terrible. By all five players on the ice. Too much puck watching in the defensive Zone. Guys that are left open in prime scoring positions are going to score goals. On the offensive side, they couldn't seem to buy one last night. Cyr had two fantastic chances all alone in front of the net and shot the puck high on both accounts. On one power play, Spence was in a perfect position for a one-timer and instead of McKenna feeding him a nice little pass he decided to try and force the puck through five players. They are not making smart hockey decisions right now and that was a very poor performance last night. On the bright side. Lavallee looked really good last night. It's too bad he was hung out to dry by the team in front of him. He faced a lot of shots last night and made some big saves. With the team in front of you playing that soft in your own end. You're going to give up a lot of shots and you're going to give up some goals. Hopefully they can turn this around before too many changes have to be made. Offensive finish can come and go, but defense is usually just hard work and being alert on the ice. Part of that is coaching and not accepting lackluster effort without the puck. In the big picture, a mediocre start might be the best thing...make a change at the HC spot and move out 2-3 big pieces to set up a run in 2020 or 2021. They seem to have good 16 and 17 year old pieces, but they need more of them. It might be easier to find a GM if we bundle the Coach and GM roles together. We are only 5 games into the season though and so it can take a number of games before things start to gel. But from what I saw last year in the regular season ... and what we saw in the playoffs ... Rumble was not forcing anybody to play smart defense. Then in playoffs he made it a priority and we were successful (vs Rimouski). This team is just lazy right now and getting outworked by everybody. I am not a big fan of Khovanov although he is very talented. He seems like a kid with a bad attitude to me and was just floating around last night.

The constant penalties is really irritating with Khovanov. Without including misconducts, he's taken 46 PIMs in 33 games with the Cats. That's wayyyy too many. Plus the misconducts that put him out for 10 minutes on top of that for chirping.

Well, they(Cats) currently hold 15 th place in the league with 5 games played showing 2 wins and 3 losses ( no O/T points) and .400 hockey. Although early, it is a trend that could worry should it be allowed to progress. It will be interesting to see what the adjustments will be going forward.

Just seems to be a familiar pattern already with the lack of urgency without the puck. The players are talented when they have the puck. I'm certainly not pinning this on the defenceman as the forwards (except for a few) are giving no support. Coaches need to start showing some accountability. I see the same issues with Khovanov as everyone else but it's nothing new for us with our Euro Picks. Also, if we are going to single him out we also need to call out McKenna. He had a handful of chances to pass the puck to an open guy for a scoring chance and decided to shoot last night. He led the league by over 20 shots last year. He would be much more dangerous if he passed the puck once in a while.

But I've seen him try to force too many shots that are easy passes so far this season. I think it's a symptom of the whole team playing like individuals. Just wanted to point out that Khovanov is an easy one to single out but certainly not alone.

The crowd is dead because the players are not giving them anything to cheer about. Nobody is working their tail off out there ... the fans will cheer for a hard working shift.

Also as well, the crowds so far are probably not even WC fans and are more, "want to be at the opening ceremony" crowd that are just looking for any kind of entertainment or a shiny new toy. Probably next year the center will have something to cheer about. For this year, this is the crowd.

I agree and the Coliseum was the same way, only time we had any real noise was the Q finals or the Mem Cup, Moncton fans are too laid back and many that go are not real hockey fans, they just want to take the kids out for a night out type of thing. Go to the Quebec rinks and most of them are very noisy. On top of that they even further cut the atmosphere out when they banned air horns, because some city politicians wife was there for her 1 game of the year a few years back and oh my it was too noisy.

The Avenir Center is probably going to sound quieter with 3800 people than the Moncton Coliseum did with 3800 people because it is bigger. It's also one large bowl rather than a smaller bowl with a 1/2 upper bowl, so spreading 3800 people around that large area doesn't help create noise.
It's why smaller arenas in Quebec are "louder" than bigger arenas.

That's typically viewed as an upper bowl. Unless I'm not getting the joke.
