I always laugh when people post that the team has "huge profits". there has been one year in the entire existence where the team made money, and it wasn't the year they won the Memorial Cup (that actually costs money).

I'd love to see the breakdown to prove that claim that actually discloses all spending and revenue. There is no way they've only turned a profit once considering all the playoff success they've had. Someone is doing some creative accounting to sell that as a fact.

Remember they were the N$eaAADog$ back then and were handing out cars and cash and education packages to everyone that could lace up a pair of skates. Various staff members that supposedly stole money or "misappropriated funds"......billed stuff to the team that weren't actually hockey expenses.....big beer bashes in the main office......The Honky Tonk Man holding live concerts in his office with his trusty guitar.....it goes on and on. But yeah if this team was actually losing money all those years then it is/was very poorly run, and it makes you wonder how 90% of the rest of the league is still in existence. I'm going with "creative accounting" for a few years at least. Rebuilding/down-years for a few more. Complete ineptitude for whatever remains.

Creative accounting is how all these teams live which is why the general public should be questioning any claims they make about barely breaking even. If you can't make profit because you promised Huberdeau a Porsche and 7 paid visits from his parents plus a school package whether he went to school or not(all fictional folks, calm down ) then of course you might not make a profit but it has nothing to do with your market or your lease agreement. CHL has a whole wouldn't exist if a Saint John couldn't turn any profit after deep playoff runs and multiple championships.

Such a weird threat. Where would they move? Edmundston? Sorel? Unless something's about to go down in St John's with the Growlers, no city has the population or arena to host/support a QMJHL team. And the city took the threat seriously?? Manchester NH?

A little more coming out in the Telegraph Journal on this...
-talks with the Sea Dogs and Harbour Station broke off in April -Don Darling met with GM Mike Caddell, where Caddell reportedly said "Harbour Station would be better without the Sea Dogs than with them -The Sea Dogs were directed by the Harbour Station Commission (group that overlooks the arena and employs Mike Caddell) to turn to the city for help on their lease -Trevor George said "This wasn't the Sea Dogs going rogue and going to speak to the mayor and the city. The message to us from Harbour Station management and leadership was 'we can't help you on a new lease. We can't negotiate with you. You need to go speak to council'
Mike Caddell and the Harbour Station commission, of course, deny all of this.
