Does it strike anyone else as odd that the Cats would be in a rush to add what will presumably be a backup goalie? IMO, Lavallee is likely as good or better than the journeymen 19 year old guys that are rumoured to be headed here. Perhaps Lavallee has requested a trade so that he can get more ice time in his draft year? Otherwise, why not see how he handles being #1 for a couple of weeks (off to a good start) and then decide early in the New Year whether or not you trust him as backup on a contender? I don’t see the need to rush to acquire a veteran backup on the first day of the trade period ... I am sure someone will be available closer to the deadline once you have a good read on Lavallee.

Yes...I also think this was a very odd/questionable move right off the jump, so once again we have badly mismanaged a goalie prospect. Can someone remind me of the last impact goalie we have drafted and developed properly to his full potential? The list is mighty short over the 24 years of this franchise. Damphousse, Crawford, Riopel...did I miss anyone? It is SO GD frustrating to watch

Could very likely be a matter of being able to get good trade value for Lavallee, acquiring assets necessary to complete other trades and then picking up a cheaper but more experienced backup.

It’s not about Lavallee being a better backup, it’s about getting assets back that you can use in other deals, and Lavallee has good value

Hope this isn't the case. Hard to believe he couldn't fetch more...

It’s not about Lavallee being a better backup, it’s about getting assets back that you can use in other deals, and Lavallee has good value A 3rd and a 4th for the second goalie drafted last year, who has a year and a half in the league, was progressing well, and just posted back to back shutouts is not good value in my books. Once again we will be buying high and selling low. If the Cats brass were stockbrokers they would have bankrupted a dozen times with their trading philosophies

Sure hope Rod doesn’t get an injury.

Trade away Lavallee for a 3rd and a 4th and add an older, worse goaltender in his place?
Huh? On the surface this looks terrible.

Take it for what it's worth. What does that even mean? He doesn't like him as a person or a hockey player? Even if that were true its still the teams job to get maximum value for the asset. Shawinigan must be laughing at what they had to pay. For such a "tight lipped" organization it seems like information leaks are quite common. It would be nice if the Cats could negotiate from a position of strength on something for once.

The trade was probably made right after the Blainville game.

So every team is MAXING out on assets getting crazy prices and we are actually getting worse. How do you trade a 17 year old 3rd round draft pick goalie with an almost 92%sv and 3 shutouts for the same round draft pick he was taken in a year ago, and a later round draft pick then select a worse goalie to back up Rodrigue? Didn’t we add Anderson MacDonald at 17 for double what he was drafted for and a top defence man prospect?..... players values are suppose to increase from their draft position not get worse... This organization is a bloody joke at asset management. If we do in fact have Groulx and MacIsaac they probably gave up L’Heureux, Desnoyers, 1st in 2021 and 2022 and Pelletier and Spence at the draft the way they execute deals Just an embarrassment to the start of our “go for it” year trade period.... Everyone else making out like kings, 20 yr olds who cost 3rs round picks getting two firsts etc

Just seen also that Baie Comeau just replaced their 19 year old Goalie ( that they got a 5th and prospect for) for Daniel Moody ( very similar numbers that they paid an 8th for???
