Not sure about some of the other countries but in Russia it is very traditional for extended families to live together. The players likely didnt want to risk catching something in an airport (highly likely compared to just staying at home) and giving it to their parents/grandparents. And fact is that the billets most of these players stay with are in much better conditions for isolation then some of their families in Europe and Russia are who are all hoping they're going to hit it big with an NHL contract.

So here is a question. It is my understanding that most players have gone to their homes, including the Import players. I don't think that Andersson and Khovanov would even be allowed back here anytime soon if we were to start back up. Of course other teams would face that same dilemma, with CB losing Sokolov, Sher losing Hlavaj, and so on. But I think we'd lose out big if that was the case. I think the only way we see more Q hockey this season is if we have a vaccine. As far as I know Andersson and Khovanov stayed in Moncton, while all other Wildcats returned home. A few other euro's stayed, Sokolov (CB) and Victo Euro's. Khovanov ‘s Instagram shows him leaving Canada, so he is gone!

"For the first time in 102 years, there will not be a showdown to determine Canada's major junior hockey champion.
The 2020 Memorial Cup has been added to the list of cancelled sporting events in Canada due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with the Canadian Hockey League calling off the tournament and league playoffs on Monday."
As per TSN. Going to be a long off season...

My sympathies to Moncton.
Not a wasted Go for it year; you had a great team to watch down the stretch. It sucks that you do not get to play for a championship, but no body does. There are far more serious things to contend with at the moment. Unfortunately, your cycle coincided with this and we are all stuck at home watching last years sports. Far better than watching some poor teenager die from a virus he did not need to get. Hopefully, we find a solution and get to rebuild for the next chance. I'm sure with that nice new arena Moncton will host a Mem cup in the future.

I'm not surprised it was cancelled, but I'm a bit surprised it came so early, thought they would wait 2-3 weeks and see how things eveolved.

Its going to get a lot worse before it gets better. There is no date for kids to return to school and we can't drive Province to Province now. Khovanov went home and there is no way he was getting back into the country anytime soon, so we are probably better off. Its disappointing but we all knew it was coming.

I remember back to the 2012-13 season, the year we had Jaskin. I felt that we were one of the only teams that could give Halifax a run that year (may have been wishful thinking because nobody was beating them). We lost out in Rd 1 in 5 games to Victoriaville. That seemed more disappointing to me than this does.

I can recall on two other occasions we had built contenders and were plagued with bad luck ( health related ) as well . We made big sacrifices to add Jonathan Roy , only to have him go down to health issues . Then we made it to the Memorial Cup , only to have a number of players have health related issues , especially our goaltender . And now , you can add this year to the list . None of these teams were plagued with injuries , just the course of bad luck for the Cats .

Was really looking forward to the playoffs ! It is for the best that they cancelled the season but can't help feeling bad for the wildcats and us the fans .
It is not just Moncton with bad luck ! Look at the OHL's Ottawa 67's they lost in the finals to guelph last season and were ranked #2 in the CHL this season, it is hard enough to make it to the finals 1 season and it looked like the 67's had a good shot at it this season.

I thought about Ottawa. Last year was their year. Goalie got injured in the finals and they lost the next 4. Teams need to finish the deal. You never know if you will get that second chance. Look at 2017 when Regina had their best team ever but lost in round 2 in 7 games to Swift Current. They could have been in b2b Memorial Cups since they knew they were the centennial hosts in 2018. Seattle ended up representing the WHL in 2017 going 0-3 and in their host year Regina lost 6 weeks before the tournament and took the back door in with a new coach (Paddock took over just before Memorial Cup) lost to Bathurst in final. Sam Steel career ended with no WHL titles and runner up in the Memorial Cup. The window to win is tiny.
