My pipe dream for the Import Draft is that we use the 19th overall pick on a 17 year-old D who instantly steps into our top 4 (unfortunately, the specific D that I would like is likely to either have no interest in coming over or to be convinced by someone with a higher pick to come over).
With the second rounder, we need to make sure that the player we pick justifies potentially losing someone. That means that we might take a swing for the fences on a kid that says maybe who is an elite talent, versus taking a someone more likely to come who might struggle to make the team. Personally, there are a few kids who would fit this bill easily, but almost all likely have no interest in playing in Canada.

Wasn't expecting another 2002 born defenseman since we just let one of them go. Hopefully this is an upgrade. We've done well with Czech defensemen. Hopefully this is not an exception.

Fyodor Svechkov looks like he can provide some offense. Not sure how competitive the league is that he plays in but he had good international numbers and he also has some size.
Jan Hampl although I wasn't expecting a D-man he isn't in the same mold as Lehmus and the other offensive D-men that we have. Some good size at 6' 3" and 209 lbs.
Hopefully we have a season and they both report.

Looking at the numbers, it looks like he is more of a defensive defenseman than Lehmus was. If so, then this is a good move. When Lehmus was drafted, he was billed as another offensive defenseman. We saw a few glimpses of that but didn't really stand out, possibly due to limited opportunity. We know which 2 defenseman were relied on heavily to produce offensively.

Quick scouting reports online suggest that Scechkov is an elite goal scorer but may not be a lock to report and Hampl is a big DFD (who presumably could slot in beside Villeneuve).

Without knowing anything about Svechkov, Looks like SJ got a good one. the U17's are usually a good benchmark. 3rd in scoring 6-2-8 in 6 games is a pretty good line.
I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up being the best 03 born player on the team.

I guess the question now becomes whether or not we can get him to report. I'd like to think that we wouldn't have traded 1 guy and released the other unless Georgie was quite confident he could he could get the guys to report. Or this could be more of that "strategic drafting" that we saw at the 2019 midget draft. He might figure that he might as well swing for the fences since we have a pretty solid lineup of mainly 17 and 18 year olds.

So instead of this, we drafted the elite talent at 23 and used our 2nd rounder on an 18 year old D who appears to compliment our blue line perfectly. If Svechkov reports, we have a top line scorer added into the mix. If he doesn't, we have 12 forwards for 12 spots with the returning guys and Carruthers. I hope Hampl has chemistry with Villeneuve because if they do, our D corps will be solid.

If he can fit the bill, this defence group is something I’m looking forward to seeing in action.

What's the reasoning behind Joona Lehmus leaving Saint John??

What's the reasoning behind Joona Lehmus leaving Saint John?? Lehmus could have been as low as 7th D because of his game. Hampl seems like a more natural fit (Lehmus is a smallish ofd like Poirier, Villeneuve, Desroches and Hampl is more like Inniss).

If we could get Fyodor Svechkov to report we could definitly make alot of noise next year. I think we can anyway but he sounds like the real deal. I imagine they will trade and get another Euro if he doesn't report.
