The last piece the WC might trade is Daoust...I keep hearing he will only move if they get their price as they expect him back next year. i don't understand why they aren't shopping DeJong and DLC ( maybe they have) but given the uncertainty of the season ( if the maritimes will even finish it) why hang on to any vet or tradable asset really.... Likely don't have any major value above a 3rd or 4th rounder.

You want to move assets where you can get a big return but you still need vets around to insulate and leads young players. Having a team of 2003 and 2004's getting their asses handed to them each night won't help them develop.

A bare bones sell off is a slap in the face to the paying fans and with Ulsnik not coming there's no way you are gonna run with a 16 year old Fillion as a starter with Sheehan as a backup the rest of the way. With DeJong he already has his team in place for next season at U of Guelph so unless there's a team he really wants to go to its possible he just wants to ride it out here rather than uproot himself for 4-5 months of uncertainty. People overlook the human aspect of this especially this season. A kid who reported in January likely just got through 28 days of isolation from going home to coming back, and if traded they will likely need another 2 weeks of isolation. You better be sure its the right move for the kid and the team if you are going through with it.

A bare bones sell off is a slap in the face to the paying fans Generally I would agree, though it certainly wouldn't be the first time. This year might be the year to do it from a fan perspective - no one is paying attention anyways, it is IMO highly unlikely we have fans in the building for the remaining regular season games, if we even end up with any. The other angle is the human side for the players involved - especially in this pandemic year of isolation. These kids are not pieces of meat - so unless it is something being done to benefit the player in question (maybe to be closer to home or something), then it is probably even less appropriate than usual to move a long term player for a few months just to pick up an extra mid round draft pick or two.

I think the league requires it though as part of their operational plan. Some players may just decide that going to Quebec is not worth the risk. I would think if somebody is going to be traded in these times, that they'd have to agree to it. Of course a kid from Ontario would have the option of going to Quebec or going home, and going to Ontario is probably worse from a safety point of view, but it would be home.

Without knowing the details Rumsey looks like an example of this today as within several hours he gets traded to the Sags and then flipped to the Eagles. We could guess he had no interest in uprooting himself to Quebec for a few months and would rather chance things closer to home for this year and next.

The Rumsey thing was interesting because the deal that sent him to Cape Breton was announced about 20-25 minutes after the deal that sent him to Chicoutimi was announced. Honestly it may have been the case that Cape Breton was looking for a veteran to bring back in the deal and Chicoutimi went and grabbed one for the sole purpose of making the trade work better. Works for Rumsey too because he wants to play in the top 6 and he'll have every opportunity in Sydney..... and as you said, he doesn't have to pack his stuff to Quebec and quarantine.

And mercer? Think he ll be invited to camp next year, but doubt he ll be up this year.

Mercer was on the roster so I added him.
