Mercier is off to a slow start in MAAA, only 6 points in 8 games, 57th in Quebec MAAA scoring after a strong camp with the WC. McPhee has missed the last 5 NSMAAA games due to injury. On the positive side Lounsbury has 10 points in 5 games. Thompson is off to great start with Charlottetown MAAA with a 2-0 record 0.83 GAA and .968%. How strong is Mercier's team? 6 points in 8 games could be considered much differently if he is the top scorer on a low scoring team ... compared to say the Moncton Flyers - not saying Lounsbury is not playing well, but the team put up 19 goals in two games in a pair of blowout wins ... so the stats are going to look great in that kind of setting. He’s 3rd on the team in points, leading scorer has 9 in 9 so no I’m not sure how it can be considered a slow start lol

Mercier was drafted as a skill guy while Lounsbury was drafted as a 2 way center. I know Moncton AAA is a powerhouse, but he also has to share minutes with a lot of guys drafted or who will be drafted in 2022. Not sure why everybody is freaking out, I didn't say he was bust, I said he had a slow start. I spoke to a couple Quebec scouts and they said he should be dominating that league but looks uninterested. ...and in terms of not having played last year, NOBODY in Quebec played last year, it didn't stop him from having a very good Q camp, he was one of the last cuts.

The current top 10 scorers in QU18AAA with their birth years 1. Third Round Pick - SHA (2005) 2. Undrafted (2005) 3. Undrafted (2004) 4. 13th Round Pick - GAT (2004) 5. 11th Round Pick - RN (2005) 6. Undrafted (2006 - not eligible) 7. 12th Round Pick - RN (2005) 8. Undrafted (2007 - not eligible) 9. Undrafted (2006 - not eligible ) 10. 4th Round Pick - SHA (2005) Alex Blais - drafted by Rimouski a couple picks later is at the same pace as Mercier Alexis Bourque - drafted by Blainville in the 1st round has 8 pts in 9 games Justin Boiselle - drafted by Blainville in the 1st round has 5 pts in 9 games, with only 1 goal Loic Goyette - drafted by DRU in the 1st round has 7 pts in 8 games When I look at this list, I'd say there's more evidence to suggest that we are going to see a lot of guys outplaying their draft status due to scouts having to use Bantam games to project them. Perhaps we see guys with more raw talent that were taken early take more games to break out. Mercier is on the same pace or outpacing guys that were picked ahead of him. I think this is a good thing for the Wildcats, if there was any year where you could afford not to have as many early picks perhaps this was it. They've certainly proven to me they can find talent in the later rounds.

That's interesting, somewhat unexpected. Tho Sevigny returning meant they had 4 20's so, I guess it's not that unexpected.
good add for the Cats.

Wonder if that means 1) daoust is staying in the ahl 2) Stewart will be the odd man out if he returns

Why spend a 3rd on a 20 year old this season?

Why spend a 3rd on a 20 year old this season? They might be able to flip him for more at midseason or it fills the hole if they trade Daoust.

Why spend a 3rd on a 20 year old this season? Why not? You don't have your 1st. No point in tanking. Teach your players how to compete and how to win. Not to mention as already stated, this can help come trade period.

Hopefully this is unrelated to Daoust. Would really help our team having him back here

Hopefully this is unrelated to Daoust. Would really help our team having him back here He has not yet been signed to an NHL or AHL contract, heard they want him back in Moncton once Belleville gets a few guys back. Ottawa has 13 forwards plus Tkachuk who signed today and 2 NHL guys injured(White long term) and 2 AHLers who are hurt.

Not to mention as already stated, this can help come trade period. Definitely not a full tank, they have 15 guys 18 or younger who can be here 2 or 3 years, 9 are 16/17, so the goal is likely to develop those guys while not getting run over by some of the powerful Maritime teams, good thing they get to play the 12 other teams so the calendar is not 80% with Hal, SJ, Cha and Bat. I think they will shop guys like Daoust(assuming he is back, which is current plan), Kalmikov and Desgroseillers plus Labelle Olson Langlois and Hamel, ideally with a MC year they can move 4 or 5 for big return to really help the rebuild(picks, prospects & futures). Filion Morin Iasenza Pilotte Darcy Loshing Taibel Barbashev Cloutier Daniel Mueller Casey Auger ...are all potential core regulars, obviously some won't pan out. All but Morin of the 2021 draft were sent back, 3 or 4 of those could be Q regulars.
