There have been a few host teams that bowed out early in the playoffs yet ended up winning in the Memorial Cup.Off the top of my head Ottawa in 99 and Windsor about 5 years ago. How about Shawinigan in 2012, the year the Seadogs built their team for for AND the year they hoped to host the Memorial Cup Tournament. More than enough examples of teams that seem to lack motivation during the regular season because they know they will be at the Memorial Cup regardless of what happens in the playoffs.

I really question if Dwyer was the right hire to lead this team full of talent. He's a players coach......which could hurt the team......or it may not. Some teams on paper may look more skilled.....but if the coach gets out coached in a series.....the tables can easily turn. In a 7 game series, I pick the Isles over SJ. Largely due to Hulton out coaching Dwyer. That's just my opinion. I can think of 2 times that a Memorial Cup host team changed coaches between the playoffs rudely ending for them and their appearance in the Memorial Cup. 2018 - Regina and 2000 - Halifax are two that immediately come to mind. And those teams still lost at the Memorial Cup albeit Regina made final. Saint John may not want to give it as long as until they lose in round 2. If there is a plan B they shouldn't wait.

Well that could have went better but could have went a lot worse too after how poorly they played in Halifax. Couture played pretty well overall but that was a bad goal to give up in OT. They seem to be having trouble scoring lately. I'm not very impressed with Ansons so far. I'd try Reynolds on that line D'Aoust and Francis. Maybe Lessard when he gets back.

Other than Dufour and Daoust nobody else is producing any offense. They have been getting the odd goal here and there from others but not enough. Guys like Francis and Reynolds need to start putting the puck in the net. I was hoping for more from Ansons as well. Lessard being hurt doesn't help and maybe he needs to move Trenholm up in the lineup to see if he can help with the scoring. At least they competed and were in the game today.

Not a lot of high end players were noticeable this evening. Dufour and Daoust stood out but nobody else really were consistently dangerous.
