Hackett, Sampson, Lyons, Sarrasin released … likely close to final roster? It seems like the forwards are set - they haven’t announced Matthews being cut but he has not played recently to my knowledge so he must be out. At least one more 20 year old will be cut on D and it will depend whether they want to keep 7 or 8. I could see Marcil being cut too if they plan to only keep 7. Matthews is still around.

Weird to trade for Lyons just to cut him 2 days later. Not really - just a minor deal, two teams shuffling localish affiliates …

Weird to trade for Lyons just to cut him 2 days later. Likely wanted him as an AF, they only gave up a 19 year old goalie they were not using.

Updated Goalies(2)
Filion Steinman
Defense(9) Ballantyne Fortier-Gendron Grenier Marcil Darcy Hamel or Olson(20) Iasenza Morin
Forwards(14) Auger Barbashev Beaudoin Daniel Labelle Loshing Mercier Mueller Pavan Taibel Lounsbury McPhee Smith Matthews
My guess is Marcil Olson and Matthews get cut eventually.
Personally I would cut Fortier-Gendron and let him play big minutes until midseason.

That means there could be 1-2 more cuts depending on how those 2 files shake out.

Not lineup related, but Eric Labrosse is the new 2nd assistant coach.

No Cornforth. Another disappointment.

Its disappointing but I have no issue with them taking a guy like Cornforth in the 6th round. It seems to me he genuinely did have interest in playing here. This team has shown they can get some gems in the later rounds (Daniel, Auger, Darcy etc) and that allows them to take some risks.
I only take issue with using earlier picks like Hopkins, Rozzi etc. Anything in the first few rounds should be a sure bet to report.

Plus, who knows, maybe he said "I'm going to go to the USHL this season but maybe I'll come to Moncton next year"

It's all about where you draft the players. Top 3-4 should be guys that will report. Having comp picks in the top 2 rounds can offset some of the mix, but it hurts if you are starting a rebuild. Hopkins would be a big piece on D already. Rozzi as well up front.
