I feel like Covid killed it for me.... i was a loyal season ticket holder who almost never missed a game for 15 years..... travelled off island for many games with other friends and fans for a few years as well when covid hit i found i could use that time and money elsewhere even tho we had very good teams the past couple years (Charlottetown) I rarely bothered going to the rink.. i did purchase the streaming app and watched most of the games from the comfort of my home i know most of the fans I sat with and travelled with no longer regularly attend games either.... some still purchase tickets to support the club but rarely use them i found it harder to go in the middle of winter... and the luxury of watching from home and not having to drive at night in sometimes sketchy weather very appealing.... and this year I find it even more appealing to be able to turn off the TV and go to bed rather than sit and watch my local team get trounced (ie Saturday night) there really aren't any marquis players left..... teams all play various forms of the same style of hockey.... it's simply become a robotic boring affair and the older teams win..... back in the infancy there was better star players or so it seemed and even the really bad teams were fun to watch because of the chance of some fights or big hits. Just my opinion..... I don't think thats even opinion as much as it is fact. From 2003 to 2013 or so there was a ton of talent and the style was different. Sometime around the end of that time period fighting and hitting were disappearing and the league agreed with the small markets that Quebec and Halifax spending money was bad so they made the entire league more inferior. On top of it all the Canadian goaltending factory in Quebec completely dried up as their minor hockey system became more about coaching and developing defencemen and forwards so we no longer even have that going for this league. They want us to believe the Maritime influence meant more defensive players in the Q but the reality is the Q midget league went from developing very exciting high scorers and top end goaltenders to teaching 13yr olds how to trap and win games 3-2 and the end result now is a league of players all cut from the same cloth who could mostly be swapped every night and most fans wouldn't notice much of a difference. The fighting aspect also drew people out who you'll never get back. Which i'm ok with but the efforts should be made to bring people in that i'm not seeing. Because the copy cat method also bleeds into how our teams operate as individual businesses and there appears to be very little unique about any of the teams, promotions, etc. The teams seem to be like the league and almost be scared that someone might outwork another in terms of marketing and game day promotions so we see little to no innovation in an area that in my opinion has to be maximized to get yourself out into the local communities more.

I do think there is talent in this league. I think back after the 3 great seasons in 2010-2012, that next season was like this, a rebuilding one. Seeing names on jerseys that I did not know like Highmore, Chabot, Smallman, Joseph. Sure it took them a while to learn but look at what they gave us a couple years later. We have been pretty lucky with this team. We had some bad years at the start, and then a rebuild but 3 amazing seasons, with 2 league championships and a National championship! Then rebuild again for a few years but then another championship! The build in between that last one and this Memorial cup win was hard because having covid thrown in also made going to the games a lot less fun.
I don't know about you guys but I get excited seeing NHL games on tv with guys that came from here. I always did, even back in the flames days seeing players like St Louis, Roloson, ect it. We have a chance to watch that here and see the future of hockey. We just need to get people excited to watch it again and get some butts in the seats

I would love to see the trap (and left side lock) banned. You could easily flip the stupid rule that says that the team with the puck is obligated to advance it to say that the team without the puck is obligated to attempt to retrieve it (in the eyes of the official). SJ has alternated between a trap and a forecheck (mostly because they can't trap) and the forecheck has been a breath of fresh air.
