Prior to the Bathurst game yesterday, Islanders social media send out the “Tale of the Tides” m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=pfbid0z968QQeAxAgiAUacS47vDTPEXCqTy22ExWRgYqcNDYsn87VuaXzLi3oH1AWb3rSvl&id=269852079825148&mibextid=5zvaxgJust looking at those numbers, it looks like Bathurst is a significantly better team….but I don’t think they are. So I did a little look at the league stats… -we are 18th in goals for (not a surprise) -we are 12th in goals against -we are 18th overall in PP efficiency -we are 15th overall in PK efficiency -we have taken the most PIM of teams this season. The PP% and GF sort of go hand in hand. We have a popgun offense and have struggled all season to put up big scoring numbers. But I was surprised with our problems on the PK, and it is especially concerning giving our frequency that we are in the box. Working on special teams in the last stretch of the regular season should be paramount for the coaching staff. And what I think this tells me is that quality goaltending from Frankie and Jakob has been hugely important to this teams play all season long. Picking up Jakob on waivers has likely kept us out of the basement, so hopefully he can continue his strong play.

Jakob is now at .917 in his time with us.
Frankie was .919 with us and .922 with Gatineau. Thank gooodness Jakob continues to be playing as well as he has!

Yeah our bump in the standings in largely due to Robillard.
Maybe more so right after the trade period, as I feel we’re playing better hockey as a whole right now…but nonetheless we’re very dependant on our goalies carrying the load.
I’m somewhat surprised to see such a bad percentage for our PK though
