Most important game of the year tonight in Moncton. Halifax can take back home-ice advantage and help the storyline of the "Big 4" meeting in the semis with a win tonight. A Moncton win would flip this series on its head.
I'll be on Cam Whynot watch tonight. If he was to return in this series, this game would be a good candidate. Can't bring him back early and risk further injury, but hoping he's 100% and can contribute. Would a rusty Whynot be more effective than a game-ready Jack Martin? Would Halifax go 11 forwards 7 dmen?
There is a lot of animosity in this series as expected. The team that focuses on hockey tonight will be the team that comes out ahead. Halifax has to take advantage of this animosity and get some power play opportunities out of it. Moncton has to try to get Halifax off their game while staying out of the box. Will be interesting to see the strategies implemented by both teams.
I think Halifax has their legs under them now and will take this one. A little closer than Saturday night. 5-2 Moose with an empty netter.

A completely out of left field question: Is anyone with InStat access able to easily share the average ice time of players (from both Halifax & Moncton) for the playoffs, or is that against their terms of service? Was curious how often the big line from Halifax played in game one vs game two, and what our ice times for defensemen were like.
It's unfortunate ice time stats aren't available for everyone. Pick224 had them last year, but they don't look like they've done the same tracking this year.

Agree Reecor, this is a big game for both teams. I personally do not see Moncton winning another game this series, but then again, I didnt think they would beat us at all this series. And I was clearly wrong there! Game 2 was more how I expected things to play out. I would be shocked if it wasnt the 4 teams in the semis that are expected to be there.
Whynot should be back by this game tonight, unless his rehab work is just not paying off. To answer your question though, 'game-ready Martin' has been doing an excellent job his first year in the league and has had a pretty solid year. He has not done anything to this point in the playoffs that looks out of place. This playoff experience he is getting could pay dividends for the Moose next year. In terms of Whynot, he is a big part of the D-core, but I wouldnt necessarily rush him back in this series if he is not actually ready (or rusty). Halifax is going to win this series with or without him.
It will be interesting to see if Loshing is playing tonight, as I suspect there will be some large retaliation hits in this one tonight.
I hope Avenir can draw a larger crowd then they did last series. Many of those seats looked empty even in game 7 which is quite disappointing.
Closer game tonight. 5-3 Moose.

If there's large retaliation hits in this game Moncton is in big trouble. They need to stay out of the box. Obviously if they can find some ways to draw penalties from L'Heureux then sure, but chasing the guy around the ice to fight is not going to go well. If Loshing is still hurt they should be using that as a way to pump up the team to win. As for the crowd. It looks like it'll be the biggest they've had so far for playoffs, but I'm guessing there will be a few hundred moose fans giving that bump. I'm gonna guess 4500ish. Which is in between what they had the 2 weekday games they had in 2019 against the Moose. Moncton needs to score first to get the crowd into it, despite a tiny crowd for game 7 the building was loud for only have 3000 fans. If the Moose get their fan busses into the game early its not gonna be a good time.

Game 1, 92 leads all HFX skaters with about 24mins and 11 just a shade under 23mins. 34 was next highest (almost 22). Game 2 saw 92/11 play roughly 21mins and 34 play 23. For DMan, Furlong played 25 in Game 1, followed by Schultz at 23, and Moravec at 21. MacKinnon was just under 20, Phillips at roughly 15mins and Martin about 11. Game 2, Furlong/Schultz both played 24, MacKinnon again at 19, Moravec at 18, and Phillips / Martin around 12/11.

The way this team can have awful starts to the games is worrysome. That was a really sloppy first. They tightened up in period 2, but its a pretty sloppy game overall. Feels like the old days of the trap, both teams struggling to connect on passes coming in to the O zones.

Whynot no longer on the Halifax bench. Hurt again, or back too soon?

That 1st period was hideous. Brutal turnovers and puck management. Not sharp whatsoever. Seems to becoming a theme. A bit worrisome half a dozen games into the playoffs.
If they advance, and play Sherbrooke (I think), they'll have to raise their game about three notches. The amount of chances they give up at times...they'll get picked apart by a good team.
The 2nd was better, but still not good enough. Thank god for Rousseau. Dumais created a few turnovers. But overall he's been average at best. You can't sit back ALL THE TIME waiting for turnovers. And I hate Doucet with Cataford and MacPhee.

Surprised peitche is scratched for the first time in 70 games for Chisholm. I guess they don’t feel good about whynot !!! He’s a good defensive 4th line guy that can put a few goals in .

Lucky to hang on to that one. Thought Moncton was taking some runs at the Mooseheads players in that one. Seemed like they were after Schultz. It will be huge to have L'Heureux starting to consistently contribute every night especially if they move on to play Sherbrooke.

And that's why we put up with all of L'Heureux's shit. He has the ability to take over games when his head is screwed on straight. Loved his celebration on the empty net goal.
Dumais is struggling to finish right now. Two partial breakaways and a couple clean looks with nothing to show for it.
Wasn't pretty at the end but that's not what the playoffs are about. Let's put them on the brink tomorrow night.
