Isles won 6-4. Goals by Evan Nicholson (2), Kian Bell, Ross Campbell, Kyle Powers, and Simon Hughes
Jack Flanagan played the entire game and stopped 16 of 20 shots.
Game notes:
- First period was a defensive clinic... so many close calls... Sebastian Monaco (SJ goalie) played outstanding... made a spectacular save on a 2-on-1... Anthony Flanagan across to Ross Campbell, one-timer denied... shots 11-3 Charlottetown
- Second period was when the offensive floodgates opened and Monaco had to be yanked... six goals combined within six minutes
- Third period was just good ol' drama... a near Saint John comeback... couple of scrums... some Sea Dog flipped themselves into the Isles bench... they tried hitting Matthew Butler but Butler turned just in time and they went flying due to the sudden stop
- Kian Bell was injured in the third... got tripped by Elie Warren towards the SJ net, slid into the post and then slammed hard into the boards... looked like he tried to grab his tailbone first but then he realized he had a hand/wrist problem... somehow managed to skate off on his own... absolutely tragic knowing he was arguably the best player on the ice up until the injury... scored an unreal toe-drag release goal on a PP
- Matthew Butler is going to be a star in this league... his puck skills, skating abilities, and commitment to pinching hard in corner and board battles (especially with taller and more physical players surrounding him) are on another level... came so close to a goal in the first... wide open in front and whiffed it over the crossbar
- Anthony Flanagan and Zackary Plamondon were standouts... both could very well make the team this year but a few noticeable flaws make me believe both should be reassigned for at least one year... would be better to see them thrive in top roles rather than get limited time with us... maybe some call-ups during the year
- Marcus Kearsey, Anton Topilnyckyj, and Owen Conrad will be the best D group in the Q within a few years, prove me wrong... holy moly they gel well... Simon Duguay is really fighting hard to earn a depth spot, but it's going to be close
- Evan Nicholson thrived in his home rink with two rebound goals in front of family and friends... he wasn't noticeable in that one intrasquad game I went to... always a guy who pops up when you least expect it but it's at a perfect time... he'll be contending for a depth role
- Speaking of that intrasquad game... Alexis Michaud had a massive rebound in tonight's game... way more energy, got way more involved in plays, and even denied a Saint John breakaway... earned two assists, had a few goal chances but broke a stick on one shot... Michaud tonight is the Michaud we need every game this season
- Will Allen and Kyle Powers bring such a level of energy in their skating and overall effort, along with a slight offensive touch... either one has to make the team this year... I think whoever does, hell if both do, Sam Bowness is done
- Robbie Rutledge and Brett Arsenault are guys who are flashy in certain areas but either try too hard or show a flaw in the worst way imaginable... Rutledge is physical but his skating lacks (ironically made a few hits that ended up hurting him more)... Arsenault is speedy but lacks consistent puck skills and tries too hard physically... they could earn bottom line spots but they'd be better off with top roles in Junior A imo
- Hot take, Isaac Vos could easily make the team in a depth role, but I believe he'll be a depth chart casualty like Rutledge and Arsenault... sucks because when Vos plays good, he's REALLY good... but there's such a level of competition that barely beats him
- Jack Flanagan wasn't challenged enough... not enough dangerous chances by Saint John... every shot he got was low... all high shots were wide or hit a bar... I like that he's clearly athletic and has good movement... but sometimes it's too much... seriously needs to hug the posts more... let in a bad angle shot at one point
Top standouts: Kian Bell, Alexis Michaud, Matthew Butler, Will Allen, Kyle Powers, Anton Topilnyckyj, Owen Conrad, Zackary Plamondon

Powers is already signed hes on the team at least to start
Vos not making it is not a hot take imo
Agreed depth guys younger than Bowness make him very expendable
Thanks for the post watched a few minutes on youtube was surprised how good the quality of picture was not sure who was calling the game with cory but whoever it was needs serious practice

For a free YouTube game, I have no problem with that.

What did Warren and MacLean look like for SJ

What did Warren and MacLean look like for SJ Warren is massive…seems pretty slow though. Took two penalties I think, one Bell just out raced him so Bell tripped him and Bell went sliding into the post and got injured. Never noticed Maclean out there a whole lot, but that can be a good thing

What did Warren and MacLean look like for SJ Warren looks like he grew a lot in a hurry out there. His coordination is completely off. If he could ever fix his coordination, who knows what he could be. The issue is whether this is something that SJ thinks that they could do or not. MacLean was making quick plays with the puck. You could tell that he played a higher level than some of the other guys, but the question with him is whether there is enough upside.

It is a competitive camp. There’s a possibility where all of Vos, Arsenault, and Bowness are on the outside and replaced by younger players. Rutledge is a guy with half a season’s experience and he is probably a longshot to make the team. Also, I’m not sure where Todd factors in. He’s currently injured and I’m not sure when he is expected back…..but he would also likely be in the hot seat like some of the names mentioned above. Powers is already signed hes on the team at least to start Vos not making it is not a hot take imo Agreed depth guys younger than Bowness make him very expendable Thanks for the post watched a few minutes on youtube was surprised how good the quality of picture was not sure who was calling the game with cory but whoever it was needs serious practice
