I fail to see that! Only a select few attending Prep School get to NCAA level.... So the "not elite" Canadian player can get an education in Canada while playing hockey too..... They can access College in the States for free, but when comes University, they have to pay or come back to Canada if they fail the grades academically or at the sport level being hockey... It is true what you say for the ages 16-17-18, but at 19 and beyond, if they are not good enough, they have to pay their own way. The Canadian system will bring a kid to University and secure scholarships for his full 4 years. To give a hands down advantage to the American way is simply not recognizing that a very few select ones access the NCAA program. You have this preconceived notion that if you play NCAA you wont go pro...well I hate to break it to you but the USHL had more players drafted than the QMJHL... You should sign a contract with NCAA rather than scout Canadian kids.... The USHL got LESS players than the QMJHL drafted in the first 3 rounds.....more in the bottom rounds.

The Hockey News did a poll not that long ago and they asked current NHL'ers if they had a son who was playing hockey and had a choice to play either NCAA or CHL. The poll showed that most of the NHL'ers would rather see their kids play NCAA instead of CHL and if I remember correctly it was because of the education and also because the NCAA does just as good of a job of the CHL of producing pro player. Times have changed, years ago the CHL was considered pretty much the best, if not the only, league for developing players for the NHL. But that's not the case no more as the NCAA has not only caught up to but in some ways has surpassed the CHL in terms of where players choose to play before turning pro. It's not just becuase of the quality of play, and coaching in the NCAA but the education is a huge factor also.

Just because I scout for a CHL team doesnt mean i have to be a fanboy and love everything the CHL offers. Im not poopooing on the CHL and saying its worthless...all im saying is if i had a kid good enough to play in the CHL, id be pushing NCAA the whole way... Its my opinion...ive formulated it from years of following both levels. Is my opinion any better than yours? No....but 1 thing I do acknowledge is that there are 2 viable options...you only think there is one.

Basque is a very quick player. A good play maker aswell. Will be a huge loss to the Miramichi Timberwolves if he makes it. Best wishes to him though.

There will be a very deep roster this season and Daniel will be 19 and did not show much during last season....he will need a huge camp if he wants to stay in Bathurst.

Basque had a great camp in 05 in Lewy and very nearly made the team. I was really looking forward to him last year but he hadn’t really developed and didn’t show much in the 06 camp. He was a pretty easy cut in 06. I really liked him though, hope he bounces back and works out for you guys.
