I am surprised they are moving on from Allen. He had a solid transition to QMJHL player in the second half. He can play physical and has good speed. We don’t have a ton of depth up front and I thought he’d be a solid part of our forward depth.
I guess hurting his chances is the case that he is 19 and sometimes a 19 y/o player in a depth role gets replaced by a younger player.
Flanagan wasn’t going to make it here, but he had a great season and playoff in Jr A. Depending on SJ’s depth in goal, Flanagan could totally emerge as an option to play for them next season.

I saw McHutchion and Stumph earlier, but Stevens is a new name. As a 15 y/o he scored 11-11-22 in 34 games. Last season at 16 he was 17-16-36 in 36 games... good for 3rd in scoring for Dartmouth behind Aiden O'Donnell and Brady Burke, who was a 3rd year U18 player.
I'm a little surprised, given his offensive numbers, that Stevens wasn't picked up in a draft. He was a 2nd round pick by Truro in the 2023 MHL draft. The high picks in the MHL draft tend to be players who MHL GMs identify as guys who should be talented Jr. A players but maybe aren't quite good enough to break through to be full time Q players.
Interesting addition to camp!

Now, looking forward to training camp, if you consider how things look in terms of depth, things start to come together looking like this as a depth chart:
LW: Goriunov Hughes Walker
C: Butler Powers
RW: Michaud Shields Campbell Flanagan Yuzik Caines
I've listed players in positions that are identified as their position on the QMJHL website. We are deep at RW, but I expect the team will use Flanagan as a C. He performed well there in place of Giovanni Morneau when Gio went down with injury late in the season.
I wouldn't necessarily consider Walker a lock to make the roster coming out of camp. Like Allen, he's a 19 y/o player who won't play a prominent top two line role. Sometimes those guys can be replaced with a younger option. Walker is a guy who Jim seems to like. He's a guy who earned his position last year and is a big body. He is capable of doing some PK work too, so there are facets to his game that are attractive for next season.
The next guys up who might be in the mix to battle for roster spots could include:
Jeremy Dumas, C, 2023 draft pick who played U18 with Jonquiere. He was injured in camp last year and missed time in the regular season. When he returned to the lineup he scored 4-9-13 in 17 games.
Bednedetto Masi, LW, 2024 pick. Masi was thought to be a good pickup by us....but he's probably suited to another year in U18 before competing for a spot.
Mathis Valente, RW, 2023 pick who played U18 with St-Eustache. He scored 14-13-27 in 42 games.
Rowan Walsh, C, 2024 pick. Much like Masi, the smart money is on Walsh given a season at U18 before being a serious threat to crack the roster.
Nathan Weber, LW, 2023 pick. Weber was an 11th round pick, but has some offensive ability. He scored 21-24-45 in 35 games with the Moncton Flyers, who have a strong track record of sending players to the QMJHL.
On D, the left side is more populated than the right side:
LD:
Kearsey Conrad Duguay Jardine Plamondon
RD:
Topilynckyj Jacques
Jim really doesn't seem to have preference for balancing lefty/righty. Despite being high on the depth chart and playing OK in a fill in role, Jacques is likely not a candidate to break camp on the roster, unless he plays really, really well. All 5 of those LHD will play, so some will be on their opposite side.
Other D who could be in the mix really would just include Emile-Alexandro Lemieux-Goupil, who also likely waits a year before playing. Voyaga is also a LHD and he'll get a look in camp and hopefully will be a guy who can develop in the program. I'll not be overly optimistic we ever see Luka Radivojevic... that will take some luck... but overall the D depth looks pretty solid for our team.
In goal, we'll see Ruccia backed up by Hickey, with Boudreau likely being the next man up especially if he's playing Jr. A in Summerside. Hudson Bradley will look to have a strong year and maybe get some consideration for a backup job or #3 spot if he can have a strong season in 24-25.

Especially with Ruccia in net. Another RD and this team can easily win a playoff series or two LD of Kearsey Conrad and depending how well Plomodon does could be scary. Michaud Bickle and Sheilds will have very good seasons next year to go with Gurionov who is a 30 goal scorer.

There's also at least 3-4 other really solid teams in Moncton, CB, Chicoutimi, and Baie-Comeau and already one of those 5 teams won't make round 2. Upsetting one of those top 4 after they've added more pieces isn't going to be easy.

When you put those teams out there it seems they have no chance lol. Rimouski and Moncton are at the head of the pack Rn. Cb still hasnt made there big move like Rim and moncton if they wait until 25-26 CB could be beatable but i still think CB beats them without adding. BC and Islanders would be a good series i just dont see it beinmg a first rd matchup.

For next year are we back to 1 vs 16, 2 vs 15…..etc in round 1 of the playoffs. I’ve been a fan of this league so long I’ve seen just about every combination of playoff formats and the league seems to switch it up every 2-3 seasons for whatever reason. Probability speaking you should get better geographic matchups in 1 v 8 but I think we're seeing now that in a league with so much turnover rivalries simply develop among good teams having competitive games. And that should sell in any market come playoff time as you get into deeper rounds. I'm surprised the conference style isn't what is the long term plan based on financials alone but I think the mechanisms in place come playoff time must help to ease a lot of the financial issues smaller markets deal with.

Despite the trade period being open since August 1, there has been no finalization of the Ruccia trade.
Talk on the CB board recently indicated they they were attempting to restructure the deal to include newly selected forward Kayden Robitaille going back to the Eagles. He is the son of Eagles coach Louis Robitaille.

Latest addition to training camp roster is 19 y/o d-man Colin Maund out of Ontario. He is 6’4” and 181 lb and is a right hand shot. Last year with Georgetown Raiders of the OJHL (Jr A) he was 2-11-13 in 36 games.
