Very interesting…no release that they’ve signed him yet, so maybe it’s just a tryout and to push Hughes a bit if nothing else. If he does end up making the team, it’s exactly what we need..a big right handed defenceman. It would solidify the D corps as well… Kearsey - Topo Conrad - Steen Jardine - Voyaga Plamondon - Dougay

But playing devils advocate; why would Hughes go before Vos? Vos did improve tremendously in the 2nd half in his decision making and puck handling. But I’m not sure he’s where he should be at 20. Just my two cents.

Right now I think the general consensus is that it’ll be Ruccia, Gurionov and Hughes…if this new guy steps in and shows he can play, you’d have to think it’s Hughes out there door considering they just spent assets on the other two guys. I certainly think Simon can play in the league as a 20, whether it’s for us or another team….Vos is better suited for Jr A IMO

Should be interesting like last year when Huckins, Morneau, Horth and Bell had to compete. I remember speaking to Gio’s father and he said Gio was genuinely nervous he wasn’t going to make the cut. I didn’t think he had anything to worry about but I do think that mentality can be a good thing because it shows they want to put their best foot forward and play their best. No one should feel safe. So, let’s hope for a good competitive training camp!

I mean Hughes has shown some wild inconsistency so having someone to push him isn't a bad thing necessarily
However without any of us seeing this Steen kid play how can anyone say he is exactly what we need? Lol

6'1 180 lbs isn't what I consider "big" in todays game
and his PIM totals are incredibly low so doesn't scream physical
but i have no clue how he plays so I reserve judgement

Obviously no one posting here will have any idea on how big Steen is until he gets here. But this post got to me to thinking about something else which has been on my mind a while. I find lately that it seems like the league website is more honest than in the past about a player's actual height and weight. Here are the guys we drafted this year: chl.ca/lhjmq/en/draft/lhjmq/2024/Charlottetown/Most weights are 150-180 and heights right around 6'0". These are appropriate heights and weights for athletic 16 y/o males. To me, it seems years ago, everybody would be listed as 6'2" and 195 lb. For the most part, the big, heavy players in the league are 19 and 20.... closer to fully grown. It should be uncommon for a 16 y/o players to be coming in as a rookie and having "man" size. There is a quite a bit of growing a person does between 16 and 20 and I feel the league and teams are more honest about size then they might have been in a different era. 6'1 180 lbs isn't what I consider "big" in todays game and his PIM totals are incredibly low so doesn't scream physical but i have no clue how he plays so I reserve judgement

It was pretty standard to add 2 inches and 15-20 pounds to a player.

Steen the exact size since his draft year in 2020, see #50 : chl.ca/ohl/draft/ohl/2020/So, it seems pretty safe to say 6'01 and 180 hasn't changed much since
