Noah Olemedo-Matte looked great for you guys today, nice skater and good size. Gets to the dirty areas with ease.

Is this the most reasonable lineup for a game 1 or 2 of pre season that Couturier has ever dressed. He usually trying to slip in a couple 20, a 30 goal guy and maybe 2/3rds of his top line. He probably had to be told to smarten up.

Tonight's lineup, definitely comprised of more realistic candidates than yesterday's group of longshots to make the team.

Tonight's lineup, definitely comprised of more realistic candidates than yesterday's group of longshots to make the team. View AttachmentCade Moser in both games, I wonder if he is someone that is competing for a spot. I watched two periods of the game, and he didn't really stand out. Players that I felt had a good game. Best Line Laplante, Mathis, Luke McPhee, and Justin Breton they looked really good. Best line for the Mooseheads. Bent, Aidan - his size and strength really looked good. His skating looked a lot better, and he was playing defensively Olmedo-Matte, Noah, skated well, and his line didn't play well but he was noticeable for the right reason. I think to see him in the lineup again you have to think they liked what they saw. Brodeur, Colin - the only D that really didn't look out of place. It was only one game, but these are the players that I noticed for good reasons last night. Luke McPhee you could tell his majority, but I really like Breton and Laplante's game.

Agreed on the top line, Breton has some good wheels and Laplante... I've liked him for a few camps now. He plays with such an edge. If he were 6'0" or 6'1" he'd be a massive problem. I'll add I liked what I saw from Thomas Cote, what an effort on the penalty kill, and he had 3 or 4 grade A chances... which says great things about his ability to generate chances but not-so-great things about his ability to finish,. Still. As a 2008, I see some potential in him.

Not a the easiest game to follow last night on YouTube and obviously somewhat of a fringe lineup but certainly some guys trying to get noticed for the last spot at each position.
On D I think the three 18 year old free agents have an up hill battle to grab the last spot on the team. I actually thought Brodeur was maybe the most intriguing of the D… good size and will use it, doesn’t stand out but played a simple game. He might be #8/9 at this point.
Upfront was about what I expected, nothing that pretty or productive.
Laplante looked like he did last camp, good size and battle and trying to be in the mix for that last spot. McPhee much the same. I think the last forward spot or two this year might be as much about what direction they choose as it is who looks a little better than the next guy.
Do they go youth, do they go skilled, do they hang onto an 18/19 year old to let a 16 year old get sent down to get ice time. I think there will be arguments for each in the next couple weeks.
I thought Makinen may have earned himself another game and was a bit more noticeable than most and was good along the boards.
Best surprise for me was Olmedo-Matte. He looked like if he was drafted for his size that he could bring more than just that to the table. Didn’t notice him in the first but he ran a couple guys over and also made a few puck plays that showed a hockey IQ beyond just north South physical play. Big body, only 16… could be a good project there.

Clearly undersized but showed some skill… thought MacLeod showed quick feet on a few occasions. Cote had some good chances but also when the puck went to the boards a few times he looked out of his element.

Fournier I noticed as much as anyone last night but that was for good and bad. He was involved but really struggled one on one. Surprised only 3 cuts. I think for goaltending they’ll want to see as much of guys like Madgett and St. Onge as possible. It will be interesting to see how goaltending plays out.

Tonight's lineup, definitely comprised of more realistic candidates than yesterday's group of longshots to make the team. View AttachmentLike that Brodeur and Olmedo-Matte are playing again. I see on the Moose site the list for the remaining guys in camp has updated everyone’s size. They have Brodeur at 6’1” 222 and O-M at 6’3” 186 Bit surprised 17 year old American free agent D Chiras isn’t playing. Wonder if they really like him and have already made an agreement. That would pretty much set the D barring a somewhat surprising move/cut/decision. Looking forward to seeing the young forward group tonight.

Thinking the same thing on Chiras - he either came with a spot secured, or they've decided he's shown enough to make the team already. If so, there's a couple decisions left to make for the 6 & 7 spots, with 2 of MacKenzie, Doyle, George, and Brodeur appearing to be in the mix. Much less certainty up front, where 3-4 spots are up for grabs, with a lot of decisions pending between low-ceiling returnees, and new hopefuls.

I usually assume that a rookie not playing but still at camp means that he hasn’t made the team / hasn’t decided to play in the Q and wants to protect his NCAA eligibility. Seems to happen with a few guys every year with a few teams. As long as he doesn’t play in a game and pays his own way, he can stay at camp as long as he wants / the team will have him.

I have a feeling the new owners are going to get a rude awakening on attendance this year. We’ll see what the first exhibition game is like for viewership but I don’t think it will be pretty.
