I'd like to see Jim try to move up to the #2 pick, but I don't think we have the assets to do that.
The biggest thing for me is we need an RD, ideally better than Lanza lol. There's such a logjam on the left side, especially with what should be our top 2 D both being LD (Kearsey and Conrad), it would be nice to have that balance.
We also need another goalie. I don't even know who the #2 goalie is in the system. Boudreau? Do we even have his rights anymore?

It's not a strong draft for D men and it's even worse for righties. Camden Jackson out of Chateauguay is a 6'2" RHD with some potential, but I'm not going anywhere near him with a 1st round pick. That said, I'm not an expert, there may be a guy who flew under the radar who I've never heard of... but if you wanna get a good young RHD you'll have to get creative. Very strong draft for forwards it looks like tho.

We no longer hold Niko Boudreau’s rights. There really isn’t a strong backup option on our protected list. Perhaps we select a goaltender in the Euro draft. Maybe we catch a cheap 20 y/o option. I know taking the 20 y/o goalie from the Eagles last year didn't work out, but that's just the first name that comes to mind. Would make it a bit harder since he's a Euro too.

We still haven't gotten recovered in lost draft capital from the failed all in attempt of 2022.. as shown by the fact we once again have only 3 picks in the first 5 rounds as I see it although we do finally have one in the 1st and a nice 2nd .. so moving up in the first round would probably be a poor idea.. I'm more interested in seeing what falls to us at 7 or perhaps moving down in the first round to add a few more picks to the cupboard
as for goaltending i think looking for a 19-20 year old on the cheap to split duties with Hickey for the first half makes the most sense... again trading for a quality 20 year old netminder just blocks Hickey's development path unnecessarily IMO..

With 3 import slots available, I could see Charlottetown using an import slot on a goalie (especially an older import with a later pick)

I hope that we don't have another Ozols situation.
Great kid, but the confidence wasn't there imo. And that's the risk you have to take with a Euro, some kids just don't acclimate well when coming to NA.
He showed flashes of being good, but not for long enough.

Most teams have trouble finding 2 impact Europeans to play in the top 9/top 4/#1 G roles. The addition of a 3rd will also add additional frustrating in CHL markets unless there's suddenly an influx of European talent unexpectedly.

We do not have enough picks in the top 100. We have the #7 overall pick in the first round, Gatineau's 2nd (#22) and our own 5th (#81). That is not enough selections to add the depth that we need. There either has to be a trade where we trade down from #7 or #22 to add another pick or two or a the much discussed (but not recently) Kearsey deal in which we add picks/youth right away. If we only draft three 2009 born players in the top 100 this Saturday, that will be a mistake. They will be trading a few players this draft for a pick or two in <100 imo. The team other than the ‘core’ guys are all moveable, any 19 year old really.

20 (pick 3 of 4) Leek Montroy Powers Jardine
19 Butler Campbell Shields Stumpf Kearsey
18 Seymour Sim Flanagan Valente Conrad Voyaga Plamondon
17 Herron Lemieux-Goupil
"In the system"
17 Dylan Caron Charles-Albert Pouliot Rowan Walsh Benedetto-Antonio Masi Gavin Smith Theo Lebrun William Morgan Sullivan Martin Will Clark Kayden Robitaille Malix Chenier-Meunier Isiah Rogerson
18 Nathan Weber Jack Carter Logan Biser Jake Doherty CJ Watroba Hudson Bradley
Also part of our protected would include 20/Euro Pavel Simek (signed in Czechia), 20 Anton Topilnyckyj, 20 Jonathan Lanza (Penn State), and 18 Euro Luka Radivojevic.
Full disclosure on Euro rules... they change every year and I can't keep up. Obviously there are big changes with the protecting of 3 Euros compared to 2. Under the old rules, I believe were were going to be allowed to keep Radiovjevic and draft a full slate of Euros, provided he gets NHL drafted this month. I'm not sure if that is current with the new rules. Plus, all indications are that Radivojevic will head to Boston College in the fall anyway. We will retain his rights for the time being, but he's likely a distant bell to play for us.

If they don’t trade any 20’s. Be a battle for the 3 spots. Jardine gotta be a lock imo.
Jardine - Montroy. Leek and Powers be a tough. I think Powers sneaks in due to his PK ability and being center.
