About the Dmen. Has anyone seen Eastman out there? On the paper camp list he is no 2 on team red. I have yet to see him in either game. I went to tonight's game and did no see him. I was curious to see how a 5'9" d-man would do. You've never seen Pianosi play? He's only 5'8".

I think Cooling has a leg up for the backup job at this point ... he has been working with Damphousse and Bergevin-Jean for at least a year now as they spend time with the Beavers and Flyers. Cooling is solid and big ... not a flopper and stands his ground. If he can perfect his angles and improve his lateral movement in the net he could be a Crawford in the making (probably not that good but certainly that style). Problem is though that Cooling is 18 and so is Riopel and so at some point (probably next draft) we will have to bring in a younger guy to be the heir apparent to Riopel. The other three guys ... Bolduc, Dupuis, Babiak ... all looked good but perhaps a little less refined compared to Cooling ... likely a product of the coaching Cooling has received. Cooling wasn't very good in the 2nd game today Let's not forget that Dupuis and Babiak beat him out in the Chowder Cup camp...

I Think Bolduc will be the Cats Backup Behind Riopel.... Unless Sniderman stays, but can't see that happening!

the more i think about it the more i think that Sniderman will start the year with us. I think they will trade Lincourt to lazy for Flynn and Marquardt should be away at a NHL or AHL camp.

You won't see Sniderman here this year, I don't think that is a good idea. I think we'll see Riopel & Bolduc as our goalies this year.

This was obviously a pre-arrangement. They were not even in the top 5.Cooling was in the top 5.

It may be wise to keep one of Bolduc/Dupuis/Babiak and send Cooling to the Beavers (they own his MJAHL rights) ... then you have Cooling handy as an affiliate player whenever you might need him ... and allow him to work with Damphouse and Bergevin-Jean regularly.
Unfortunately all the backup options are 18 and so next season we will lilkely have to break in a new guy that we grab at the draft. This current crop of goaltenders is simply a bridge to get us through this year.

steveul, the logic being that don't want to be heading into the 09/10 year with two 20 yo goaltenders?

I think they should keep Bolduc as a backup & send Cooling to the Beavers. The good thing as someone else already said, is that he is in Moncton already & he'll be working with some good coaches. I think Bolduc has been the best so far, but then again, it's still very early in camp.

steveul, the logic being that don't want to be heading into the 09/10 year with two 20 yo goaltenders? Its not smart to carry two goaltenders the same age as you can lose them both in the same year and be stuck breaking in two rookies the following year. Bathurst did that two seasons ago and paid the price last year. CB had two 19 YO goaltenders last year and are now wondering who their #1 will be this year ... the only returning 20 YO goaltender they have has always been the backup. I won't even comment on your "two 20 yo goaltender" question.

steveul, the CB situation is what I was thinking of. I should have phrased it, "you wouldn't want to end the 08/09 with two 19 year old goalies".
(My math could be horrendously wrong, but I think Riopel would be 19 in the 08/09 year)

I don't think that Babiak or Dupuis beat out Cooling in the Chowder Cup. This was obviously a pre-arrangement. quote] Why the eye-roll? I know you have some connection or other to Babiak, but it would not be the first time that Chowder Cup spots were awarded based on politics ... I didn't see any of the camp, nor have I even seen the Cats camp yet (hopefully tonight), but it is not totally inconceivable that Babiak and Dupuis were guaranteed spots on the Chowder team before they travelled all the way from Ontario for the tryout camp (quite possibly on the Wildcats dime ...).

Has Nick Croft been written off too quickly? I looked at him to day and he moved well and made some good quick decisions when I was watching him.
